Review 1 of 1

Price Paid:  $169.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
Overall a very nice and balanced 5.1 setup. The sound is very clean and not overly thick on midrange as most of the lower end speakers are. Accuracy seems to be very good...although not as good as my old EPI TE-100's that I have lying around or my friends Energy bookshelf speakers. The sub is somewhat small but is definitely adequate for the target market. Honestly, this is probably one of the best speaker values I have ever come across. I would most definitely rank them with speaker systems typically costing upwards of $500.00 or more for a 5.1 setup. In my opinion most speakers (except for high end Polk, Infinity, etc) are far too overpowering in the mid-range....these speakers don't suffer from that problem at all. Mid's are tight and not too intrusive, highs are clean and accurate and the sub is definitely powerful enough for a small to mid sized listening area. Teamed up with my Onkyo reveiver, these are an incredible speaker value. I have yet to listen to anything that can touch them for the price point they come in at or even for several hundreds of dollars more.

Strengths:
Absolutely unbelievable value for the money. You won't touch anything that sounds as good as these for even several hundred dollars more. Very accurate reproduction, acceptable "imaging" and adequate sub for most people.

Weaknesses:
The imaging (dunno' if this is the correct word) could be a bit better. As an example, in stereo mode listening to music with my EPI TE-100 speakers I can close my eyes on many passages and pretty much picture where things are in my room. The Onkyo's are somewhat lacking in this but not that bad at all considering the price point.

N/A in 5.1 setups. This is my first 5.1 system.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
