Summary:
I went looking for a affordable home theatre system and landed with the AR HC 1 and a Pioneer A/V receiver (100w x 5). I spent approx. $500 for both and to this day I'm still amazed at the sonic quality. I went with a friend to a local store and "AB'ed" several brands of speakers. We both chose the AR's. The high end (treble) response on the AR system was clear and defined, not "hypey", and the 8" sub is remarkable. For about $300, this is an amazing system. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Strengths:
Unbelievable sound for the price.

Weaknesses:
It is a smaller system. I have it in a room about 15' x 20' and it fills it well, but I wouldn't want to put it in a larger room.
