Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $100.00 from A store I don't care

Summary:
I have a fairly expensive home stereo, sitting in the entertainment center, collecting dust and taking up space. Ever since I bought these speakers- one set for the front, one for the back- my computer has been all I need. Mp3's, CD's, Movies, Radio... These speakers, coupled with a high-end audio card, deliver a very consistent sound, from deep, clean bass to crisp, clear highs. Shop around- this will be the best $100 addition you could put on your computer!

Strengths:
Everything I just mentioned- Just a good, solid product!

Weaknesses:
I haven't found one yet- doubt I ever will.

Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
If you can find any computer or electronics store that can demo speaker setups properly you may end up purchasing these over others.I was not lucky enough to find 1 store.I did howeveruse my ears as best I could and decided to fork over a bit extra money.I made the right choice.as far as PC systems go,this appears to be the winner in most musical.I use the system to download great unsigned artist off the internet. If the recording sounds real good I burn to CD and play on my main speaker system in the living room. The transparency of the Paradigms is way above this system, however for a small multimedia system, this goes way beyond what you will normally find. This system will please anyone who wants a more honest representation in the critical midrange portion of music.I could even go a bit further in recomending this system to someone who wants a main inexpensive system for a main room and does not want to spend a lot.A portable CD player and this system could make great sound, even in larger open areas.GREAT BASS.

Strengths:
Price/performance ratio.very musical.headphone jack and volume control very convenient.

Weaknesses:
yeh the hookup is strange

Review 4 of 5

Price Paid:  $95.00 from online in UK from Microdirect

Summary:
Get a pair, you don't know what you missing!!

Strengths:
As Eric stated the YSTMS50 speaker set will not disappoint. I have mine coupled with some MS40's through a 1024Live soundblaster, giving beautiful surround sound. As for the chain of command Eric speaks of, the input jack does go to the right speaker first then is sent to the sub and then sent back, ampified down a multicored cable, thus cutting down on the no. of stray cabling. The right speaker also houses the on/off and headphone jack. The powerunit is situated in the sub woofer.

Weaknesses:
None

Review 5 of 5

Summary:
I would recommend these speakers to anyone. For $100 they let your computer double as a home stereo. I just wish they made the same model with surround speakers included.

Strengths:
I have to say that I love these speakers. They give crisp highs, powerful midrange, and overwhelming bass. They have everything you need, without ridiculous bells and whistles. There is a master volume control on the right satellite, and seperate subwoofer volume on the sub. They also have a headphone jack on the right satellite that cuts out the speakers when it's plugged in, saving you from digging around behind your computer to plug them in. Yamaha also didn't skimp on the volume. They're loud enough to cause pain at high volume, with relatively little distortion.

Weaknesses:
The only thing I don't like about them is the strange chain of command. The output from your computer goes to the right satellite, then the sub, then the left satellite.

Similar Products Used:
I demoed several other products from Boston Acoustics, Cambridge, and Creative, with similar setups.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....
