Review NaN of , from San Diego, CA

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Speaker City

Summary:
These have been the best speakers for the money that I have heard. I stopped by the actual store in Burbank because I was looking for some bookself speakers that had full range, but were still affordable.

The speakers I bought were pre-built with a black finish. You could also get them in kit form. I first tested out these speakers with some classical music. Piano's came out of the speakers as perfectly as I care for. I have spent some time in performance halls and I know how piano's are suppose to sound like. I'm sure the other instruments were also fine but I do know the piano the best, so I was concentrating on that instrument. I then moved on to a few jazz recordings, and then more modern pop music (Dido / Fiona Apple).

These speakers give out a beautiful flat response. The sound is whole and very true. If you have any kind of effects in your receiver, leave them off. These speakers do not need them. After listening to them for several hours I also did not suffer any fatigue. In fact the more you listen to them, the better they sound.

My only complaint is that you may want to match them with a high quality sub woofer if you listen to a lot of bass. But you can't expect that range from any bookself speaker.

Strengths:
Very strong overall flat sound.

Weaknesses:
Need to match with a sub woofer for a full tonal experience.

Summary:
The Short Story..I purchased this speaker in Mid-November, yet it was the end of December until I received all the components of this kit. Despite this, I really like this kit. The kit included unfinished oak enclosure, padding, screws, gasket, x-over,gold binding posts (upgrade), Vifa T27-45 tweeter and P17-WJ woofer (excuse the shorthand on the drivers). The kit was a breeze to put together (drill, screwdriver, scissors). I liked the fact that the enclosures were wood veneer and that I could finish as I pleased. Try to find a speaker with wood veneer for $250.

The sound:
Better than I expected. The x-over used low-quality mostly Mexican parts, but still better than one would find in a commercial speaker at this price. The Vifa drivers...MUCH better than one would find at this price...or at twice the price. The sound is open, detailed, great vertical coverage, and surprisingly strong bass. My main speakers are Legacy Classics, and to be honest, I don't mind listening to these speakers at all! Very good depth on the soundstage and an OUTSTANDING value. Highly recommended!

PS :Make sure you get the x-over optimized for the Vifa drivers.
