Summary:
I really got into listening to this little speaker. I compared it to the Spendor S3/5, and the JM Labs Cobalt 806 at the same dealer with the same electronics (Creek 5350SE and Sony transport and Chord D/A). The SR12 matched the Spendor's midrange, but it was much better than the S3/5 in dynamics, transparency, and brought more details while remaining musical. It was more musical than the JM Labs which seemed bright. This speaker really draws you into the music which is what its all about. The review from the audiophile? from PRC should be removed. That review says nothing about the speaker.

Strengths:
Non-fatiguing, very musical, great soundstage

Weaknesses:
None at this price for a small bookshelf speaker.

Summary:
TO add to the review found directly below, I found better results with the grille on and tweeters pointed straight ahead, rather than right at me. A great soundstage could be attained this way.
Also, the peaks described are possibly 1) artifacts of a cheap non-flat SPL meter and/or 2) room reflections (tiny room! this is inevitable).
In addition, the channel balance issue, I now have found, is due partly to some hearing loss in my right ear (hopefully temporary)!
Also, the retail price these days is $1000 not $695.
All in all, a very good, refined monitor system. I am conservative in my ratings.

Listened to in a 9 foot by 11 foot pine-paneled room (very small), in several different positions. Need to be within
two feet of the front wall for bass reinforcement, however clarity and soundstaging improve when moved further in
the room, as usual with most speakers. Nearfield listening is an option assuming some other bass reinforcement/ use of a sub.

Also measured with a RS sound level meter with REL sub set to cut off above ~60 Hz. Assuming flat response of
meter (big assumption!?) I found siginificant peaks (+5 to 7 dB) at approx. 160 to 315 Hz (upper bass lower
midrange), 630-800Hz (mid of midrange), and 5-6.3kHz (mid-treble) at listening axis (tweeter level, 2.5 meter
distance). Bass was down significantly below 100 Hz without sub operating, or without front wall reinforcement.
Top treble rolled off after about 13kHz.

At 1 meter on woofer axis, response was a little flatter in mids and treble. 600-800Hz peak still in evidence, as
well as mid-treble peak (still obvious).

If there is sibilance in a recording, the speakers will emphasize it (mid-treble peaks?). For this reason as well,
images sometimes wander, since the tweeter makes itself known at certain frequenceis. Keep in that this is
essentially nearfield listening, a greater distance from the speaker may provide better driver integration. The midrange is mostly laid-back, a ‘mid-hall,’ rather than forward, perspective overall. I believe this correlates to the measurement evidence that the lower midrange is higher in level than the upper midrange. There is good continuity around the crossover region (2kHz?).

Overall, good sound from this setup. With great recordings, such as Mapleshade (the best CDs I know) the sense of being there is very strong.
I do notice some mismatch in response from one speaker to the other, but this may be an artifact of the measuring process, and of their respective positions in the room, and room reflections.

This speaker is punchy and powerful if fed enough current. The woofer excursions are impressive when played
loudly. Although I think they probably work best with tube amplifiers (in order to minimize sibiliance and some
treble brightness), a good solid state amp with lots of current would really take charge and make it rock.

I am slightly disappointed in the peakiness in response, and wonder how carefully these were voiced or
driver-matched. However, they are capable of very impressive sound given the right associated components.
Imaging is mostly impressive, they can disappear with the right source material.

I have not experimented with speaker cables. I did bi-wire. I am tempted to try a different set of cables to tame some
of the treble. 4/4+ sound, 3 or 4 value.

Summary:
sr12 sing very sweet and clear. its mid-range and treble sound very clean and soft. the detail and soundstage is also another advantage of this small wonderfull speaker.
i can hear the different (compare to sonus faber concertino) sr12 can completesonus as well as another speaker up to 1500 dollars in every point except to concern in bass.
however don't expect for deep and punchy bass in this small speaker.
may be the guy from hk is deaf.

Summary:
I am compelled to put the review on SR12 as I read the review from a guy (Mr. Hong?) from PRC HK. I think he must have serious problem with his ears as what I heard from these small wonders is wonder itself. The treble and mid-range can beat any products 2 times its price. The bass is slightly less as the size can give out. At this price I cannot understand why anybody would like to complain about its quality (build and sound). Do not trust me, listen for yourself and you will be surprised.
