from Mixsonicusa.com Summary: Owned more than 26 pr. speakers during the past 50 years and listened up to Aerials. Just got a pair of SDAT SB-880s. Rated at 4 ohms. Great clarity, definition, and balance. Good drivers, proprietary surround materials that speak well for edge damping. They have two 8 inch concave aluminum dome woofers, equivalent to a 12", in a ported cabinet. Although advertised with four 5-inch midrange divers, they actually have four 3 inch concave aluminum dome mid-range drivers, equivalent to a 6 inch, and two tweeters. The woofers and the mid-ranges are in D'appolito arrays, the two tweeters have phasing disks and are arranged side-by side. The most striking thing about them is the impression of no veil of any kind between you and the performance. The horizontal dispersion is outstanding. The instrumental detail is remarkably good. I can hear chafing bows, embouchure, the character of horns in a full orchestra, and piano is a delight. Stage presentation is about right. It is neither too close nor too distant. The same holds true for stage presentation in home theater. Moreover, they hold together down to inaudibility. They've been advertised at prices from $1600 down. If you like classical music,or opera, you'll love these. If you prefer rock, I don't recommend them. They're rated at 87 db/watt, so a 100 watt amplifier should drive a pair to 110 db - adequate for my 17 1/2 x 28 ft listening room. I use them as stereo and as home theater speakers. They are large - 44" tall, 11" square, and 59 lbs. each. Cabinets are very solid and well braced, nicely finished in cherry wood vinyl. The grill is exceptionally transparent, sheer material, which is acoustically transparent and almost visually so. You can get a pair for $265-349 from Mixsonic, Overstock, Essex, and others. I think all of these outlets have at least a 7-day return policy. Don't let the low price throw you. SDAT is a chinese OEM supplier to other speaker manufacturers. I think that when the word gets out, these will be more sought after and more expensive. Strengths: Clarity, definition, spectral balance, build quality, appearance. Weaknesses: None that I can find.
