I thought I'd come back and top up my previous review after extensive listening.
I'm finding it very difficult to replace these damned speakers... Having been looking to upgrade them for several months, it seems that I honestly cannot afford to.
My system has radically changed since the last review and is now;

Anyway, I've just added the second power amp and the speakers have filled out nicely... It seems that 100W monoblocks really aren't adequate. (That's 100W into 8 ohms. Most likely 130W into 6 Ohms.) Pushing 150W into these big ugly buggers has really improved their cohesiveness. They sound more natural and bigger than before.
People who believe that over powering speakers is bad clearly do not trust their own listening abilities. If it starts clipping, TURN IT DOWN. If I could, I put a pair of Crimson 640 mono blocks into each speaker. 400W into speakers designed for 120? Nutter? No. These speakers just love their current.

If you have these speakers and are not very impressed... It's your system. Spend money on a better source (your system is NOTHING without a good source) or bolt on some more power.

Strengths:

Power Hungry. Ugly.

I've chopped and changed this system to see the differences with other AMPS and sources, but the above is my main config.

Many less capable amps would struggle to deliver with these speakers. The CD6000 OSE gives a very smooth fluid output which is sharpened by the amp. Everything in my system plays an important part. But lets look at these magnificaent speakers.

Anyone who's ever worked in a BBC sound studio in days gone by will know the Rogers name very well since they were used as reference speakers for many years.

The overall sound is highly detailed and bi-wiring makes a huge difference. The drivers and tweeter may not be huge but these speakers where genuinely ahead of their time. It's a shame Rogers, like of lot of British manufacturers, couldn't keep up with the pace of change despite most of their products performing so well.

These speakers will highlight both good and bad recordings - there's no compromise! With a good orchestral piece you can easily pick out individual instruments if you try and live recordings are superb.

If you favour fast attacking music you really feel that it keeps up with the pace, AOR rock/pop pumps and hums in the right places, and orchestral sounds feel warm and detailed. A more aggressive Russian piece will hit you. All in all, these speakers will cope with all of them as long as your amp and source can do the same.

I'd be happier to change the source to the Marantz CD6000KI Signature (now it's cheap as chips at £249 as a friend would say). I've tried a friends Roksan Caspian AMP and CD combo and I began to drool like Homer at the sight of doughnuts. The NAD C370 and Rega Brio also suit the Rogers. Oooh, so much to choose from!!!

This review can't do these classics enough justice. But remember, the sound you get from your system isn't just about buying the best components and throwing them together!!! Be confident to try things out, chop and change before making a decision.

Strengths:
Fantastic midrange and excellent bass depth with a sweet treble that isn't too bright. Creates a detailed and controlled atmosphere sufficient enough to fill a big room.

Weaknesses:
Takes time to position them in the right place...but the rewards are remarkable.

Similar Products Used:
Mission 774, 773e, 733, 702, Wharfedale Diamond 8.3, Tannoy R2, Yamaha NS200, Acoustic Energy Aegis 2. So far none of these can match the Rogers.

Summary:
Superb midrange and treble especially with vocal and orchestrated music. The clarity is fantastic, although 3D positioning is tricky, you have to be positioned precise to enjoy the speakers at their best.
The bass is a little lacking but this is only to be expected with the size of the drivers fitted, the bass is more than adequate for my listening tastes and my son who is into today’s music sounds compliments the LS55's most strongly.
For value and sound reproduction I cannot recommend the Rogers LS55 Floor Standers high enough, their sound reproduction is far better than I expected them to be in my home. Well done Rogers another QUALITY product.
Go buy and enjoy.

Summary:
I purchased these speakers from Hyperfi and had already heard them in the past. I was very dissapointed with the sound at first. The whole sound started to break-up when the amp was turned up (note - not 'loud', pounding sound levels - about 1/3 on a Yamaha 100W amp) Given time this improves although they can't handle bass at loud levels. A major factor for a dance fan like myself.
Mid- range and treble are good to v good.
Now for the dissapointment....
The speakers are cheap because Rogers went bust. The speakers have been shipped to Hong Kong and back and spent a few years lying about in damp warehouses. The boxes were mouldy (but the speakers are in a plastic sleave in the box). The mid-driver on one speaker had split from the glue causing an awful mumbling sound. Speaker replaced. The replacement had a tweeter that didn't work!!! Finally i have a pair of 'good' speakers. 2 months later the glue on the bass driver of one speaker seperated and i'm now having them packed off and sent 'again' across the other end of the country to be fixed!!! All my equipment is suitable for the speakers and i never turn the amp past half volume. I'm not happy.

Summary:
I bought these Bad-Bots second hand a criminall small amount of money. I thought I would get a tiny improvement over my Heavily Modified Tannoy M15s.
I was unfortunately wrong.
The difference was bloody vast!!!
These are some of the best soeakers I EVER heard! At any price! Seriously, I audiotioned some monitor-Audio Gold floorstanders (No idea what model, but they were £1500) along with some rather Tasty Kef Q55s and B&W 603 s2. Just as I was contemplating which to purchase (Bang for buck) I stumbled acoss these and thought they'd do as stop-gap measure before getting my new Speakers.
I now intend to keep these for as long as we both shall live. If they Die on me, I'm gonna try and buy some more.
My listening ranges from Beethoven thru' Badly Drawn Boy to Nine Inch Nails. It is fair to say that these handle ALL I can throw at them. The bass goes way deeper than I'd thought possible with 2 6.5" woofers. The treble is unbelievable sweet and pure, The midrange is the most transparent I've come across... All this in a nice, ugly box.
Can't have everything...
