Bottom Line:
As these retailed for 1500 dollars Canadian I can't say they are the best overall sound for the price. The powerfull powered subs often overpower the mids and highs. That being said however if you like to listen to your music at a high volume and you also listen to very powerful sounding ( lots of bass ) these speakers would be a logical choice. For Rap, Crunk, Heavy Metal these "pound." For Sinatra, Ella and Clapton however it sounds great but the bass can often be too much even turned down. All in all however I think most NORTH AMERICAN and young listeners would find these to be right up their alley. I replaced mine with a set of Mission 782 towers. At times I miss listening to the Polks at high levels but they simply don't present the same sound and staging of the Missions.

For refererance my system consists of the following.

Harman Kardon AVR510
Harman Kardon DVD 5
Mission 782 Towers
Mission 73C Center Channel
Mission 700 Bookshelves
Pioneer 510 DVD Recorder
Marantz SR5200 AV Receiver

Bottom Line:
These speakers feature a built-in powered subwoofer which can be quite effective if used judiciously. They are very attractive to look at and occupy very little floorspace. For a floorstanding speaker they 'disappear' quite well which allows the listener to enjoy the sound source on both music and video soundtracks. They offer good imaging and depth and really 'strut' their stuff on Digital soundtracks.
I have heard the newer version RT1000i and they appear to have the same sonic footprint. They sell everywhere for $1000. pair and the consumer will find it difficult to find current models at a discount, thanks to "unilateral" (price fixing) situations. I like these speakers. They may well be worth the asking price. Certainly, there are similarly priced models that suffer in comparison to these. (imagine spending hard earned money on Bose?) Warmly recommended.

I have heard and liked polks products for years but these are the first ones i have owned.these things are amazing, and the fact that i only paid $500 (tax included) makes me love them even more.the base is amazing, and so are the highs, the mid range is not over bearing like alot of other speakers, another point i love.turn off the lights pop in any action flick, and let the thunder begin.I was so impressed with these I decided to complete the system with the cs400i center channel which is amazing and the 500 rears all matched drivers.Iam now trying to track down the psw650 sub on close out.if you come across these for 500 or less buy them, you wont be sorry

I must say these speakers are great, I cant imagine anything better for the home theater formats. Powered towers are simply the wave of the future. I enjoy listening to music & movies with the same speaker. Not a whole lot can be said for some speakers out there. If you are looking for the best package deal going this is it.

I really like the highs, or at least you can get as much as you want. The speakers are just great!!!

At discounted prices, you will be hard pressed to find a better speaker for the money. I paid $799 Can$ (Scratched display model) -- I am very satisfied with the purchase.
I've had them now for approx. 6 months and they have been a great addition to my Home Theatre setup.
The Sub's are 'good' Bass producers, but would benifit from adding a dedicated Subwoofer.

All in all, I like my Polks and would recommend them.
