Summary:
I just purchased a pair at a local flea market for $18 b/c I recognised the Onkyo name from the 1980s,and the kevlar cone woofs /fabric dome tweet looked to be high quality. My standard for comparison is the Realistic Minimus 7 with crossover upgrades. When I opened the Onkyos up I found shielded woofs and tweets rated at 20 W @ 5 ohms. The woof had no crossover, so it operates a full range speaker . The tweet has a 1.5 uf cap and a strangle little coil, so the tweet is crossed over very, very high...above 10 khz... maybe 12k. The tweeter is thus basically immune to being blown by being overdriven , but very little of the total sound comes from the tweeter. I am going to play with this cute little system and try a 12 db/octave 2 way crossover at maybe 4k just to see what happens. The cabinet is a well built little bass reflex design which I plan to internally cross brace and add a bit more filler to.
The sound is really quite good, especially in the mids. This is clearly a perfect TV or HT speaker.
The system is very efficient and fills a 20 by 20 room easily when a powered sub is added.

Summary:
Absoluty an amazing bookshlf for the price.

Strengths:
Decent bass for a woofer under 5'
Highs are phenomenal which I love Highs and Mids

Weaknesses:
I guess I would have to say the lack of bass which doesn't bother me because I'm not really into bass if you want bass you use a subwoofer.
