Summary:
I am a music lover and electrical engineer who does extensive research to discover those products that provide 99% of the performance of the ultimate components for a small fraction of the cost. I unconditionally recommend Newform Research loudspeakers as an outstanding example of such products. I own a pair of R530s and a pair of R630s. (See my review of R630s for more info.)
With the R530, Newform Research has seamlessly mated their world-class 30" ribbon driver to the new and very radical ScanSpeak 15W (5" mid-bass) that performs like a good 6 1/2" and is exceptionally transparent. The R530 is designed to be used with a high quality subwoofer. The R530s achieve a sound that blows away anything near the price! The R30 ribbon provides a crystal clear high end that never fatigues. The R530 is one of the most revealing, articulate, transparent, uncolored speakers I have ever heard, regardless of price.

In comparing the R530 to the R630, the R530s sound slightly more forward, articulate, analytical and revealing, while the R630s sound a bit more laid back, smoother, warmer and richer. If the music source has been really well recorded I prefer the R530s, but if it's not, the slightly more forgiving R630s seem to do better. All of these differences are fairly subtle however. Both have incredible sound-staging and realism.
