Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $900.00 from Friend

Summary:
I admired these speakers the day I heard them in my friends apt. I went home that night and the mass produced jbl's s-312s allthough decent just didnt sound the same. Almost like some of the music was literally missing.

Fast forward to my friend upgrading to the sig rm7s from rm7s and shortly thereafter they were abandoned to the closet b/c of the all too common loss of the WAF (wife acceptance factor)

Recently havin the means to do so, I have been shopping for new speakers that could transcend me and my music to a higher level. Then it dawned on me, how good those Josephs rm7's sounded, contacted my friend and within days are now the proud new owner.

The treble and mid although not airy are fast and detailed. I simply can hear all the music , every nuance, its all right there. Bass extends as low as my jbls towers , maybe even lower, but faster and not muddy like the jbl's. I still like the added effect of the a sub for Home theater esp , as well as music. The realism of the cymbals sparkling makes it seem like there in the room, I can here every bongo strike as it hits the drum. Voices are superclear, and very natural sounding. , esp the center channel for HT.
WOW...I was also lucky enough to get the Cinergy 5.1 matching center channel as well. The previous jbl center I owned which got good reviews surprisingly, was so bad , I turned it off in favor of the sony tv speakers. Now TV, and I mean all TV, sports, sitcoms, movies, all sound better then any profesional movie theater I have been too. I can hear what is being said without a strain, again clear and natural.

I lsiten to alot of live shows and these speakers will display the good bad and ugly so be prepared to only play full resolution, quality source material.

I admit I have not audioned alot of speakers, but even at full price I cant see another speaker revealing more of the music then these . I look forward every night to coming home and listening to these sweet sounding speakers and now see my music in a whole new light. I have them in black which so happens to match my black racks and equipment as well. i prefer them with the grills off as IMO ther look more trick and professional lookin and prob sound better too. So what if there boxy, tv's , amps, dvd players are all boxy too no one complains about that. I woundnt say there arent better speakers but for the money im sure there is a short list of others worth audtioning.

Strengths:
Its all in the details. Clear, fast, and good bass respnonse, esp for size. Super placement friendly, wide soundstage. Look forward to listening to my music all over again.

Weaknesses:
Nothing weak about them, but if you source material is not up to par, these speakers will magnify that.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $2000.00 from Direct - no dealer here

Summary:
I bought these based on review in The Audio Critic. The Signature has a more expensive complement of drivers. Still uses Rich Modaferri's brilliant Infinite Slope crossover, which keeps the mud out of the tweeter, and allows a fairly low crossover of 2k for a small 2-way speaker. The sound is a bit more refined than the standard 7, which is the standard in this class of small monitor. Direct comparison showed the 7 Sig to be more dynamic, open, and free from blurring. It simply sounded less like a loudspeaker than the B&W. The styling is mundane, but when I close my eyes it is a thing of beauty. Finidsh with the optional rosewood was very nice, and I paired it with perfectly matching stands from a rival, Soliloquy in Raleigh, NC. They use the same stain so the wood match is outstanding. I generally listen with the Sigs crossed over to a Velodyne HGS-10 via Bryston Pro Sub crossover at 60 Hz.

Strengths:
Transparency, flat response, very good bass for small speaker

Weaknesses:
Visually so-so box
