I purchased a used pair of 1600s about 6 months ago for $150. Wow, very impressed...I actually used them to replace B&W DM604s. The B&W's have more clarity, detail, better soundstage...but the JBLs just sound better. I found the B&W to be "fatiguing" after awhile, and the JBLs more enjoyable to listen to. Five star value ranking given my cost, but I think they would be competitive up against most new speakers in the $1,000 - $1,500 range.

Using them with a B&K ST2140 amp, B&K Reference 30 preamp..the 2140 has 140 watts/...but I think i'd like to find a higher powered amp as I feel like they are begging for more juice.

This is a nice speaker with a sound that is perfect for home theater applications. This is probably because of the horn which makes the sound of the speaker more direct and present. The bass response from the two woofers are well balanced and dynamic. This is all characteristics that the SVA 1600 speaker shares with the other models in the JBL SVA series.

I first used my pair of SVA 1600 speakers as surround speakers but I soon discovered that they also performed great as center speakers behind the screen in my home theater. So, I switch places with my two SVA center speakers which then became surround speakers. I'm using a pair of SVA 2100 as front speakers and I also have a pair of JBL 4645B used as subwoofers. I have used this particular configuration for over a year now and I'm very satisfied with it.
