Strength:

I intended to by some Acoustic Research speakers, because they were recommended by Consumer Reports, but when I heard these it was no contest. It was the day the Bills came back from 32 points down to beat the Oilers (92?) I remember because people were crowded around all the TVs in the electronics dept. I had brought a CD that had "Magic Man" by Heart to test the speakers out. These JBLs would handle as much volume as you gave them and still sounded perfect. I think I got them for a great clearance price, and had them for 25+ years.

Weakness:

They were so heavy I always had to get a guy friend to carry them every time I moved. It always seemed to be an upstairs apartment too. That is the only thing I can think of that could be considered a con. Just guessing at the model year and price.

Strength:

I used a pair of these for 26 years in my main system. Bought them in 1990, used. They looked like new, and they still do. They even came with the smoked glass tops. I bought them cheap ($100). Didn't know anything about them (pre-internet), except for the fact that they were JBLs with 2-10s in them. I used them with a McIntosh C28, a MC2105, a McIntosh MR73, a McIntosh MCD7007, and a Dual 701. At times, I totally ABUSED them. In retrospect, I have no idea how they managed to hold up as long as they did. I finally ruined some component in them, and I had to replace them. So I bought a pair of McIntosh XD717s. Cost about $850 w/shipping. Great speakers, but I still think to this day, that the JBLs were slightly better. The acid test, for me, is a song on one of Vince Gill's CDs titled "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Through out that song, there is somebody hitting either a de-tuned floor tom, or possibly a tympani? With the JBLs, that note just rang......verily shimmered. Just beautiful ! Sounded like I was listening to it in a giant concert hall. For context, my living room is Big. The speakers are near a wall that's 7 1/2' tall, the ceiling slopes up at about a 45 degree angle to 12'. Plenty of natural room reverb. After I hooked up the XD717s, all the FINEST nearly intangible qualities of those notes were gone. I've listened to everything from Elvis to Bach (Virgil Fox playing that Rogers electronic Pipe Organ), from Joe Pass & Ella Fitzgerald's recordings, to Linda Ronstadt & Nelson Riddle's trilogy. AND every kind or R&R, R&B, Jazz, and Country Western in between. So, I ain't some $500 a bottle Brandy snifting, audiophile snob........just a dirty-necked, old Ironworker that has always loved music in all of its forms. As insane as this sounds, I'm probably going to get those JBLs repaired. Undoubtedly cost me about 10 times more than they're worth right now (non-functional). But I'd LOVE to hear the magic one more time. Scrot.

Weakness:

NONE ! I love them !!!

Strength:

Great speaker for anyone looking to get into vintage gear. They would rank with HPM 100s, which I have had in the past, or BOSE 501, but half the price at least used. Good imaging and well balanced highs and lows. A warm sound that pairs well with an HK twin powered receiver or a similar vintage solid state. Don't believe the poor reviews by people who have never owned em. Good sound. Great value. :)

Weakness:

The finishes on these are not the 70's solid wood we all love, but still a solid build with heavy particle build, and the hard plastic wood finish.

I recently picked up a pair of these off CLOSE for a steal. I had read all the reviews saying they were no good, but one really needs to be the judge of that for themselves. I am very pleased with this speaker.
I'm running them along Sid a set of JBL ND310's and the two together sound simply amazing. The clarity the 350's put out is amazing, the bass could be a little stronger, but I like heavy bass (thus the reason for running the 310's)

All in all, a great speaker for the money they can be had for on today's used market.

Originally, bought these speakers (from a pushy salesperson) to "round out" my stable of AR speakers. The smaller AR's (3Ax's or 2Ax's) took more power to push than the JBL's, (and sounded waaaay better). These fine JBL's though, delivered well above and beyond the call of duty. First, the SIZE of them..., quality of workmanship, and pleasure to the eyes... they win out over the plain AR's... and played by themselves, were perfect. Great response whether the music was classical or ZZ Top. Great for Jazz too.... (don't know about "country" hmmmmm). When used to round out the AR's sound... delivered more than adequately, indeed! I had one pair on each side of the house... (den and lv. room) - and the sound between the rooms was fantastic! VERY Good speakers, these... used them as studio monitors for a while too, and they were great for that application! I'm looking for a qualified person to fix them (long story, but they didn't quite make it through a cross-country move - [UPS] - in fact, they were trashed!!!) (as I said - another long story ).
