from Circuit City Summary: These were a birthday present a few years ago when I started building my modest HT system. Alot of things in that system have changed over the years, but these things have stayed the same. They were acutally purchased to use as surrounds, but when I listened to them at home and compared them to the Bose 2.2's I had (hey I know Bose ain't the best, but they only cost me 50 bucks for the pair), the Bose became the surrounds, even though they are able to produce much deeper bass than the Infinity's. Coupled with a sub it became quite a nice little HT system, especially since the Bose rears can go fairly deep. Strengths: Excellent sound for the money. Nice imaging, infact nice all around sound. Of course the deep bass is completely absent, but you wouldn't expect a speaker this size to have that now would you? The base that is there is very tight and accurate. Paired with a subwoofer they make an excellent system Weaknesses: None really. Hard to compain especially considering the price Similar Products Used: Bose 2.2

Price Paid:
$299.00 Summary: Its an over good choice for a small room, college dorm, living room, or for a rear channel speaker in a surround sound set up. For what you can get them for now, I'll get s econd pair. I've had them for almost 6 years and they have been like old freinds. For those of you looking for bigger bass with these, try different positioning. Strengths: I was actually going thru the reveiws looking for a reveiw on the Infinity Reference 71 MKII. I have owned a pair of 2000.1's for years and I can relate to the negative and the positive reviews about the system. Fisrt of all, I think the lack of bass comes from the intentional design of the speaker. Its not meant to be bass heavy speaker period. The intention of Infinity was to build something for the high to mid-low range of the sound spectrum. The LMT (Linear Motion Technology) that is incor[porated into the system is the cause of the "tight" oir "lack of" bass response because this technology forces the unit to reproduce bass acurately and within the speakers range so you won;t hear and resonsnace or over exagerrated bass like you do from some Bass reflex speakers. Geez, if you are looking for real power house sound then buy a pair of Epsilons! You can get them refurbished on UBID.com now and again for about $1500.00 each (They retailed for about $10,000.00 each years ago). Weaknesses: I would have to say its the lack of bass. But thats expected from a speaker this size! Similar Products Used: I think this speaker is companrable to just about ANY speaker in its size class, regardless of price.

Review 4 of 14 Summary: In my humble opinion, the best speakers for under $200 are the JBL HLS610's. I just got these for my 'secondary' system. Amazing soundstage, response, and detail. I have a pair of 2000.2's I purchased from Damark as a 'tertiary' system for my home office. My primary system is in my family room, my secondary system, in my bedroom. These speakers are very average. Despite having monster interconnects and quality electronics (Yamaha discrete output, hi current amplifier, Nakamichi CD player, Onkyo P-304 preamp)connected to them, the sound is often a bit confined, boxy, and a bit muddled. This even with excellent quality source material (Roxy Music's 'Avalon', Alan Parson's 'Vulture Culture', or Lee Ritenour's 'Festival', for example. Perhaps, this is due to the inherent limitations of small speakers in general. Then again, I have heard countless compaints that Infinity's quality has gone downwards with some of their product line. It could be that this particular speaker is geared for the 'mass consumer', and not the audiophile, given it's inexpensive price. I still think Infinity could have done better with this speaker though. It lacks in many areas.

Review 5 of 14 Summary: Have these in my dorm room...good for small room listening. Nice imaging, excellent clarity, in all frequencies too. The bass isn't deep, but is very tight, and very accurate. A small sub with these would make a kick ass bedroom system. Overall, very pleased, as usual with Infinity. Powered by a Yamaha R-V902, Yamaha CDC-502, with crappy Radio Shack wire (eck!). I recommend them to anyone who wants clear sound in a small room.
