Bottom Line:
Summary: Great speakers! Open clean highs, full mids, tight bass.

I have had Electra 937s for about four years. They are matched in my surround system with Electra 907 rears, an Electra CC 1000 center channel and an Electra SW 1000 subwoofer. I am driving the 937s with a pair of Odyssey Audio Stratos Mono Extreme monoblocks.

The speakers are quite efficient. The highs are open and airy, rolling off beyond the audible range. That's a defining characteristic of Focal's beryllium tweeters. The 937 tweeters are similar but not equivalent to those of the Focal's more expensive Utopia line. Female vocals are crisp an clear without being sibilant. Treble is present and clean but not aggressive or fatiguing.

Mids are full and rich. Focal's "W Cone" technology increases the accuracy of sound reproduction, providing an extremely light, responsive driver. Piano tracks are sweet and full. Vocals are natural and uncolored.

The 937's bass is typically "French". Lows are not muddy or overbearing. They are extremely tight, bordering on lean. I did a "head-to-head" with Dynaudio Contour 3.3s, and the Dynaudio's bass sounded floppy and undisciplined. If you like heavy, unnatural bass, these are not the speakers for you. Acoustic and electric bass are both solid and controlled.

The 937s require a fairly large room to allow them to shine. They are not small speakers and seem finicky about where they are placed. But, if you have the space, you will thoroughly enjoy them. Focal 937 Be speakers ( as do all their speakers), offer a great, non-fatiguing listening experience and an amazing value. If you can find a pair (such as on Audiogon), snap them up. You will not regret it.
