I'm not going to write a essay here , although i'm fussy about my sound i'm not going to turn it into science.I went to buy a half decent set of speakers for my "get away from my wife room" .So i thought i'd get something second hand either from ebay or a shop.I found a store (lens audio) in sydney that had a reasonable seconds area .I only wanted to spend $1000 tops so i was limited.The second hand stuff was pretty Ok and i opted to audition a pair of AXIS LS38's(good speaker inits time 10 yrs ago) that were selling for $550.(australian dollars)
While in the listening room the sales man asked if i'd care to listen to these french made speakers that they were clearing as the new model arrived a month early and they had to go.They were twice the price of the LS38s but they sounded very good.They were brand new ,came with a 5 yr warranty and were marked down from $1700 .
The more we A/B them with other various speakers the better they sounded .Now what really made me get them was that when we A/B them against the B&W 600 series it was like chalk and cheese.The chorus 716 crapped all over the B&W in detail and defintion .The B&W were $3200 and i'd must say they were the greatly over priced if that was the sound they produced.They were equal to the LS38s but 6 times the price.
So i was sold ,went slightly over my budget and when i got them home instaed of connecting them to my yamaha stereo in the "man room" i connected them to my denon AVR 5700 in place of my wharfedale modus 8's in our lounge room and wow what a difference.These babys rocked and they pumped out a fair amount of bottom end which i thought they lacked earlier .Straight out of the box they were lovely and hadn't even been broken in yet.
They sounded better day by day and the ole wharfedales were demoted to surrounds and the bose 601's(Which were the surronds) are now in the man room.These babys sound better than any speaker i've listen to in this price range (up to AU$3000) and B&W better get there act together as it must be true what you guys are saying out there that they are resting on their old reputation.I originally wanted to get the 600 series as my mains(i've got a cc6 as my center) but i'm glad i didn't as i would have felt ripped off.
So go out and listen to these babys as i think you'll be hard pressed to match their sound for under $3000.I just love them and my old cd's have new life to them.I can't stop listening to them and my mates are always commenting on the sound of my system (having a flagship denon helps)
I never heard of this brand before but at the store they had a model made by jm lab that cost $130,000 .They were as big as two fridges !!! Strengths:
crisp and clear with out being fatigueing ,balanced sound though out frequency range with out being boomy and they come with spikes!! THE PRICE!!!! Weaknesses:
None that i can honestly mention except that they do require 100hrs breaking in.THe sales man told me to put them on white noise when your not home to speed up the breaking in process,but i loved them out of the box and broke them in the old way. Similar Products Used:

After nearly two years, I am still very happy with my system. I auditioned several different models of Focal JM Lab, Mirage, and Klipsch. I listened to many other companies which I eliminated from my list for one reason or another.
I am using a Denon 2805 to power these and it seems to be a very nice match although I do plan on amping someday...
IMO, these speakers play 2-ch music, sacd multi-ch. music, and movies very well.
If you are looking for a nice set of floorstanding speakers under $1000, audition the Chorus 716S and you won't be sorry.
Strengths:
Very smooth dynamic speakers. Weaknesses:
Golden Gramophone is out of business. Not many audio stores carry Focal JM Lab.

There's so much good product out there that it's overwhelming. I chose to listen to a few well-known speakers in a few good stores, then took the dive.
I replaced aging Bose AM5 Series 1 from '87, and the difference in listening pleasure and aesthetics in our new house is just a real pleasure.
The reviews here and on the 714s model were a big help, and as I'm no expert, let me say (subjectively) that the dynamic range is way better than the Bose, there are no "holes" in the midrange, a common Bose complaint and yes it is noticeable, well, to me it is.
I listened to the 714 & 716, and the latter was a bit more full, rich, and seems "wider". As I'm driving into a big room with bare fir floors, I was concerned about booming bass; but don't be, the Chorus nailed it perfectly. Even Bob Marley comes across perfectly. You can "ride" the bass rhythms, instead of enduring a booming sound a la Bose. No more "whump".
Out of the box, they seem a bight bright; I'm told they will mellow out. Strengths:
My wife likes the Cherry cabinets, a major plus. The sound is wide and rich and pleasurable at louder volumes, as well as low for dinner parties/light jazz. Weaknesses:
a tad on the big side, but I think I'm being a bit picky here. The tops are perfect for my wife placing plants - there should be and anti plant device designed in! Similar Products Used:
KEF; Polk; looked for and couldn't' find Mourdant Short and PSB.

Great speaker, this speaker replaced my ageing B&W DM310 standmounts.
While my room is not too big, these speakers (once I got the spikes attached) don't sound boomy at all, even though I've positioned them pretty close near the wall.
Very sweet highs (NOT fatiguing at all), good integration of the 3 drivers and a tight bass.
Recommended
One word of warning: the speakers didn't sound well integrated out of the box. It took about a week of playing (50/60 hours) to get to the current level of musical ability Strengths:

BACKGROUND
This is really a review of an audition. I actually ended up buying the JMLab Chorus 714 S which are identical except that their mid-bass driver and woofer are 1" smaller.
The Chorus 716 S are identical in specification to the previous year's Chorus 715 model, with the exception of the new inverted dome TNC tweeter - which is capable of reproducing frequencies of up to 28 KHz.
I would certainly have bought these speakers had I not the space and sound restrictions of living in a condominium.
SOUND
These speakers sound in every respect like the JMLab Chorus 714 S. See the excellent review of the Chorus 714 S here: http://www.focal.tm.fr/bancs/export/jmlab/chorusS/714S/714S_1.pdf .
However, the Chorus 716 S is actually a step better than the Chorus 714 S because upper midrange sounds more wholesome and the bass extension is better. Female voices on the Chorus 716 S will sound better.

What you get is all the benefits of the 714 S and then some (better bass and upper midrange punch). Strengths:
These are rue entry-level audiophile quality speakers! Top-notch build and finish. Smooth and well-integrated drive units with smooth highs, wide midrange, excellent but controlled bass extension and transparent sound. Weaknesses:
