Energy Speaker Systems RC-70 Floorstanding Speakers

5/5 (5 Reviews) MSRP : $1099.00

Product Description

Its tough to say what makes the Energy RC-70 floorstanding speakers so great. It could be the clear highs and powerful lows from the 1 tweeter or 6.5 kevlar woofers. Maybe its the way the 5.5 midrange brings everything together, creating a range that can handle precise, musical sound or layered movie audio. Of course, possibly the beautiful finish is what makes these so unique. Or it could be how all that combines into a floorstanding speaker thats ready to rock as part of your complete home theater system.

Bottom Line:
i am paranoid about quality of the sound. i don't accept MP3 as a quality sound and only listen to CDs or music files formatted in FLAC. Honestly i was sceptical about these speakers and for the first 3 days still did not beleive that i should pay this kind of money. But after 3 days (after i gave them time to "open up") i cannot stop listening them. they are really addictive. i brought few more other pairs of equal price and more expensive speakers but canot give up on my RC-70. I am keeping them. they really rock. all frequencies are extremely balanced. highly recommended.

Bottom Line:
Excellent speaker. When set up properly they deliver a satisfying punchy and articulate performance. Tend to sound more alive and disappear nicely when powered up to a reasonable listening level and beyond. They can be addictive at high volume which can be hard on the ears. The very strong bass and overall soundstage improved substantially with granite on a wooden floor. Found it hard to choose between these and the Polk LSi15, still have doubts but both are excellent speakers given similar price. Went with the RC70s only because of the overall sound balance. The LSi15 tweeter is very flat and detailed in the top end but seemed to roll off earlier whereas the RC70 is closer to a pair of Sennheiser HD590 headphones on ride cymbals etc, albeit less refined. The LSi15s were new and trialed for 2 weeks so may have needed more run in time to open up. The RC70s certainly req a minimum 2-3 month run in period IMHO. The other versatility factor was Movies/HT are definately more alive with the RC70 as they were developed for. For just 2 Channel with the right amp the LSi15 is a damn hard act to follow especially for accoustic and piano renditions. The finish and build quality on LSi15 is better, the RC70 (Chinese) Rosenut veneer is thin and scratches very easily. One of the new RC70 bass drivers was an out of box failure too just quietly.
The grill is accoustically NON transparent but at least it peels easily off the magnets. Then you can sit back and enjoy the ride while following the well defined kick drum not to mention the well rendered voice.

These speakers are fantastic and are deferentially a keeper!

I do recommend breaking them in as the manual says, and the sound will improved significantly as they have over the fast few weeks I've owned my pair.

What a joy to listen to them with all types of music. I simply cant press stop on my remote as I get drawn into the sound and its overall balance and anticipate every instrument and song to follow. The special qualities and unique presentation of sounds present in all songs are recreated perfectly to a point, like a good massage or creamy icecream, one wishes there is no end.

A listening addiction (without sideeffects) has begun.

Bottom Line:
So I auditioned these speakers at a Future Shop store and I wasn't all that impressed at first. However, knowing the stores 30 day return policy I decided to give them a try in my house. In-Store they were sitting on a shelf in an aisle with about 40 televisions. That said they didn't have a fair chance.

The Equipment used:
-Harman/Kardon AVR520
-Harman/Kardon DVD50

My space:
-20x12
-Speakers Positioned along the narrow wall 2 feet from each side wall, and 2 feet from the rear wall.
-My listening position was dead center within the sweet spot.

Let me first say that these speakers have completely exceeded every one of my expectations. They have a very well balanced sound with an awesome soundstage. They have a very small footprint but don't let that fool you, they have very solid bass response that will have you putting your subwoofer out on the lawn. They are also very real sounding and virtually flawless.

One thing you may here about these speakers is that they have been manufactured in china. However this is the case with most of everything and I have not found anything in the way of build quality issues with these speakers.
It should also be mentioned that although they are built in china, all the speakers are unpacked, tested, and inspected in canada on the former assembley line in scarborough, Ontario. The fact that they are chinese made is a non-issue, and has only made them more affordable.

If you have hear the Energy Veritas line you will agree with me that although they are nearly twice the price they are not twice the speaker. I will argue that this is energy's best overall speaker line.

Bottom Line:
Very impressive sound for the price. These speakers have great bass extension complimented with well balanced highs. The sound stage is wide and open with impressive imaging. The finish of these speakers match the quality of the sound which are available in black, rosenut, and cherry. The speakers are smooth in finish with no visible seams at all. The grills attach magnetically which was a small concern for me being that its metal on metal but I havent heard and resonances off them as of yet. As with any quality loudspeaker these ones state a break in time of around 100 hours so let them work for a while at medium volume with white noise to break in properly. after the break in period I noticed a big difference in bass extension as well as the tweeter softening up to the right level. I was most impressed with the dispersion when listening off axis. Whether of to the left or right both speakers were boldly present giving these speakers a huge sweet spot. Great speakers in my opinion and I would reccomend to anyone who is looking to get great sound for a reasonable price.
