Dynaudio Confidence C4 Floorstanding Speakers

Dynaudio Confidence C4 Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

The development of the flagship Dynaudio Evidence proved that placing the tweeters in an aluminium-block housing was the most ideal performance solution. In the same fashion, the tweeters of the new Confidence models are also integrated into such a moulded aluminium module. The high impulse-strength of the Dynaudio soft domes results in a very high acceleration; the power of this is almost unbelievable, but necessitates such a chassis construction with enough mass to eliminate unwanted tweeter movements or vibrations typical of conventional designs. On the dome surface, even microscopic movements with the shortest wavelengths can be adversely affected by unwanted vibrations in the surrounding enclosure. Disturbing phase delays occur, and often they are responsible for a diffuse, inaccurate sonic portrayal. The Esotar² aluminium enclosure module avoids such vibrations while having the added benefit of being thermally ideal for heat dissipation.

In view of Dynaudio's DDC technology, it is necessary to work over the entire frequency range with a symmetric driver array, including dual tweeters; a Dynaudio exclusivity. Both frequency ranges integrate perfectly with each other, yielding a very good dispersion into the room by avoiding ceiling and floor reflections. Imaging is precise, open and spacious, while instruments are positioned accurately in the soundstage. The tweeters have a fantastic frequency response due to the precise mechanical and electric control. The response is free of peaks well over 20 kHz, therefore indicating that the design is perfectly suitable for all high-resolution, extended frequency range digital recording formats such as SACD or DVD-Audio. This also enables Dynaudio to employ a typical 6 dB per octave crossover, which results in a perfect impulse response.

Strength:

Very neutral, dynamic and image excellently-works of ART.

Weakness:

Careful placement required to avoid peaks around 100-150 htz.

This is a speaker that looks good and sounds good. If you are a 'seasoned' music lover you will appreciate more the positive attributes of this pure Dane. It is difficult to pin point particulars to this speaker as all is very well balanced. Last week I had the pleasure to hear Salvatore Accardo performing at our Manoel Theater (350 year old gem of architecture, dating back to Grandmaster De Manoel- exellent acoustics for small ensembles- and chamber music). I stood in the sixth row-middle. I 'knew' what to expect as I have previous recordings of this well known violinist on the Fone' label. The concerto was brilliant, but on arriving home I-presumptuosly played back some of his recordings. I know that no reproduction can match a live performance- but I preferred the reproduction through the Dynaudio C4- they were that close!! Another point worthy of mention is that the listening fatigue factor is very low- one can enjoy the reproduction of music for long periods. Although these are 'big'- albeit very elegant works of art- one cannot look them in the face as they image extremely well and can conjure very spacious 3-D soundstages. Last point- they need air where to breath as in small spaces, their bass reproduction can be a little bit overwhelming.
