from JB HiFi Summary: We searched for a year or so. We wanted an economical, compact floor stander without serious compromises, for music (all kinds) as well as home theatre. It had to sound great on orchestra and also handle the sound effects of movie sound tracks - a tough call.
We wanted extended bass and a very level frequency response.
We are used to the sound of our old pair of Tannoy Monitor Golds (12 inch HPD drivers), which are very clean, extended and present an excellent sound stage, but are too big for our crouded loungeroom..
The concept 6 manages to "almost"d eliver the above for a very resonable price -To explain the low cost - they are manufactured in China to a Dali design. Compared to the Tannoys, really deep bass is missing, but I am very impressed with the tweeter in the concept 6 - presents a very "open" sound with quite a lot of imaging depth. Unless you A-B test, you don't really miss the deep bass, as the overall sound is just so well balanced. They can go loud as well, the two 6 inch bass/mid drivers seem un-flappable.
To make up for the lack of deep bass below 50Hz we just added the matching Concept Sub (12 inch, 160 watt), and after some careful tuning, the total result is quite astonishing.
With the sub, this system compares favourably with systems costing $3000 and over.
Recommended for great sound on a budget, but definitely consider adding the sub. Strengths: Uniform frequency response, great "airy sounding" tweeter, very open sound, good stereo imaging, will go loud.
Compact and nice to look at. Weaknesses: Very deep bass missing.
Unfortunately not real wood veneer - cheapish vinyl finish.
Rather conservative styling (plain rectangular towers, no sexy curves) Similar Products Used: We compared to similarly priced Mordant Short and Warfdale
