Price Paid:  $270.00 from junk shop

Summary:
I bought these speakers this afternoon at a junk shop in Bordeaux, France. They had been waiting (for me...) for months so that the price had dropped dramatically. They are now powered by a modest Denon PMA-500V integrated amp. Prior to them I had a pair of Triangle Zenith floorstanding speakers I was quite satisfied with...until I could compare them to the newcomers. Well, why not read below?

Strengths:
The first thing that strikes you is the odd shape of the cabinets (as a matter of fact, they ARE ugly: massive affairs with a light-coloured finish in veneer) which have no right angles.Their weight is about 25 kg each. They have the bass-reflex 3-way system, the bass and medium drivers are put together co-axially, tiny tweeter-boxes on top of the things, completely out of proportion. Not much to look at and enjoy the sight...
But the sound of them is simply a lot better in my opinion than the very good Triangle Zenith which I decided immediately to get rid of. What I listen to mostly is classical/baroque and jazz music. Due to the very short time elapsed since the purchase, I had time to listen only to 1) some jazz music on a cable channel ; 2) to a Christa Ludwig recording of Brahms' "Zigeunerlieder" and 3) to a fine 1981 vinyl recording of Gounod's "St Cecily's Mass", after a test with Linton Kwesi Johnson's "Bass Culture" on CD- thats reggae music-. The first thing I found out was that I didn't have to boost the bass and treble in the least as every sound was conveyed very nicely. The bass part is powerful, deep but fine and never exaggerated. The overall balance sounds to me unequalled: I'm addicted to going to the flea-market every day, and I've had a large number of speakers and amps. Don't forget I'm 65 years of age; I bought my first HiFi system in 1975 with a pair of good enough B&W spealers. After that I gave accommodation to JMLab, Bose, Cabasse and a few other pairs, my amps were of all sorts, ranging from a terrible Akai thing to a huge Technics pre+power amp, a Nad, a Luxman - I love trying systems and wondering how come my music itself seems to keep changing. Not forgetting that my hearing abilities can't be the same as they used to be when I was a young person, I find these speakers appalling, whatever the music you feed them with. I think that time has come for me to find myself a tube amp, when I can afford buying it. When I have sold the Triangle pair? To finish with, the price I paid for the pair is one more cause of delight.

Weaknesses:
They look...ugh!

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
