Summary:
I traded a rather cheap set of golf clubs and $50.00 for this sub. Let me tell you this baby rocks! I have it hooked up with a 2 pair of Klipsch Kg4's and a MB quart center. It complements the Kg4"s really well. It reproduced a very clean response. If you can find one buy it!

clean full sound, none of this booming BS people talk about with other subs.

awesome sub for movies as well as music,ive had my vr 2000 for over 3 years and wish i could find another,i am currently using a pair of boston vrm 90s a vr 12 center and a pair of vrm 60s for surrounds

Summary:
Coupled with VR-500 in HT system and all is well. Played with crossover so the 500 does upper bass and the 2000 lies in wait for the intense scenes. I've had unaware guests startled at some heavy sound effects. Great for music too!

Summary:
I was on the hunt for a new sub when I came across this one by chance at Harvey. It was on clearance, down from $1200 to a mere $699. I'd checked out plenty of subs before but finally went with the VR2000 because the damn thing is a beast and kills so many of the newer subs in the price range I scored it for. Not only is this thing loud and tight, but musical as well--not too boomy or heavy in a certain range. Sometimes, and I mean only sometimes, I hear what sounds like the driver banging into the internal structure, but I can't say for sure what it is.

I was really won over in the end when I had the sales person demo the $2000 Velodyne HGS12 just for contrast and I swear the two sounded very similar, but the VR2000 was just more scary, and really gave the magic fingers all over me.

True the cover does rattle, but I take all my grills off anyway. And there is hum from the amp which can only be heard if the room is dead quiet, but what do you expect from a 325 watt amp.

Just some facts about the VR2000:

THX ULTRA certified, meaning it'll deliver theatrical loudness levels in the average listening room.

Does 103 db SPL @ 25 HZ, and 111 db SPL @ 35 Hz.

Has a 325 watt amp.

Is discontinued, so pick one up if you can, because not only is it a bargin, but a true audiophile class sub. This is a blessing for those of us regulated by economics to puny consumer level subs. This cube rocks.

Summary:
I found one of these long since discontinued models at a local dealer three weeks ago. It was his last one. After paying entirely way too much for a long since discontinued sub ($1,000)(local dealers with no competition are just wonderful you know?) I semi-happily took my new toy home (after all I had just got ripped off in my opinion but based on the rave reviews at this site I thought I would still be OK). I took the beast out of its box and hooked the LFE jack on the sub to the LFE on my Yamaha RXV2095 receiver. As I put in some music CD (Tool it might have been) (cd player - Yamaha CDC665 - fiber optic out) I was slightly dismayed at the low volume produced by the sub but thought perhaps that the Yamaha didnt quite put out enough signal even at its full LFE output. I then connected the receivers LFE to the subs stereo input (tried using a y cable and without a y cable). I was then able to turn the sub up quite a lot more since I could adjust the volume at the sub. Unfortunately, the sub could not keep up anywhere near volume wise with my ancient and soon to be replaced Klipsch KG4 speakers (93db sensitivity I think). I messed with the sub for days trying different room placements, volume settings and crossover points all to the same end. The sub just was absolutely not capable of producing more than a mildly moderate amount of sound without distorting badly - very badly- and at its own 25 to 50 percent power and no matter how I hooked it up. The cover also had a very nasty habit of vibrating and making a lot of racket. Removing it completely solved that problem. The next problem was it had a real bad rattle coming from the rear panel where the volume knob, jacks and such were located. I checked to make sure the screws were all tight and they were, checked to make sure the empty binding posts weren't loose and they weren't). I also checked the front screws on the sub enclosure to make sure it wasnt actually something else rattling and I noticed that the bottom screw on the front of the sub was stripped out! How did that ever get past Boston's quality control? Either way something somewhere was making a whole lot of racket and for that kind of money it shouldnt.
Other than that though I must say that it sounded very good at what I consider low volumes. The bass notes were articulate and musical and able to keep up with the fastest of bass notes. Dvd movies (saving Private Ryan, The Wall, Armegeddon) sounded superb yet not quite loud enough for what I expected of it. Dont get me wrong, I do not like an overly bassy system but I do like the sub to at least keep up with the mains within reason. I do think they would make an absolutely outstanding subwoofer for a less efficient sattelite speaker system or for people who only want a small amount of bass or have a small room. Otherwise don't waste your time with the VR2000 unless you want to try using two (if you can find two). Also ask your local dealer to please stop ripping everyone off. Oh yeah, and make sure you unpack that baby at the dealers store and inspect it for stripped out screws and other abnormalities. I personally decided that I wasted too much time on the thing, took it back and instead got a Paradigm Servo 15. That is what a sub is supposed to sound like. Either that or the Boston sub I got was just plain messed up from the factory and not a good representation of the past VR2000 line in which case it simply is another black mark for Boston's quality control. Either way - value- 2 stars because it sure didnt sound like a $1000 sub, more like a $500 sub, and - overall - a 3 due to its quality control problems, low sound output at non distorting levels yet quick response and articulate sound at low volume.

Strengths:
Accurate and quick response at low volume levels, very musical sub, good on DVD movies.

Weaknesses:
Distorts badly at anything more than a very moderate volume, cover rattles loudly when sub is turned up, plate in rear of sub rattles, quality control problems.
