from Dick Smith Powerhous Summary: Certainly a good quality all-round contender for it's price; highlighted by it's articulate mid-range reproduction.
They are rather petite compared to most floor standers, but don't let that mislead you, these things pack a punch. Their lower and mid bass are impressive, being rear-ported with optional bungs included. With the bungs in place I've found the bass to drop off substantially; without, they sound well-rounded and fairly accuarate.
It's really the mid-range, and upper-mid scope that position these speakers above their like-priced competitors' counterparts. They will well and truly do justice to any acoustic music, (most) vocals; and in particular, guitar music. The woven-kevlar midrange driver is a mechanical marvel that stands out from the plastic/paper cone drivers employed by other manufacturers.
The treble is fairly sharp, accurate and precise. B&W have opted for a simple metal cone for their tweeter. They do the job pretty well, nothing astounding; they seem to shine at the higher-pitched frequencies, and work wonders for jazz music as a result. Rock, popular and orchestral music are reproduced well enough to enjoy, the superb mid-range usually distracts attention from the fairly pedestrian treble articulation.
Strengths: Sound brillant for the price! Good all-round performance leaves little more to be desired for most listeners.
Superior midrange articulation to other speakers of its class
Solid, well rounded bass performance
Excellently constructed - outstanding attention to detail in the build quality; Made in London; one can feel the quality of the parts upon first encounter.
Look beautiful, but not to the point of being distracting. They'll blend in with most peoples' decor. Weaknesses: The performance of the treble is grossly overshadowed by that of the midrange, and if used with the wrong equiptment/equaliser settings may lead to a harsh-sounding treble.
