Price Paid:  $400.00 from Hock Shop Barrie, ON

Summary:
I bought a pair of Omega 26's about a year ago and have loved Angstrom since. While searching around, I came across a mint pair of Omega 28's for only $469.00 used at the Hock Shop. I got the guy to give them to me for $400 tax in. What an amazing investment! I moved the much smaller Omega 26 towers to the den and replaced them with my Omega 28 beauties. The sound is pretty much the same but there is plenty of more low end extension due to the larger 8" woofers and the almost double internal volume of the 26 6" model. We Canadian's build the best speakers in the industry! The Angstrom Omega 28's are no exception. These are fabulous monitors. The sound is beyond what you would expect in the midrange playing field of $500-1500 speakers. The speakers are unique. The beautiful shine from the copper woofers make these speakers very distinctive. The sound is detailed with excellent highs and no signs of compression and distortion by bi-wiring them to a Kenwood VR-6070 THX surround recevier in Pure Stereo mode. DVD-Audio sounds fantastic with a full Angstrom setup. I have Omega 28 fronts, Omega 5C Center (VERY unique!- triangle sides with a SINGLE 5" woofer and Dual tweeters) and two pairs of Omega 5's for side and rear surrounds for THX-EX processing. I use a Paradigm PW-2200 to fill in the bottom end. These speakers need the grills removed and the cabinet tilted up so you can get the glorious and wide soundstage I experience everyday. This is a must. The speakers take on a very different sonic character with the grills and and the whole speaker flat on the floor. They are quite short at 33" so the speaker NEEDS to be tilted up! Angstrom does their homework. Just by reading their pages and pages of speaker design philosphy and testing on their website at angstromloudspeakers.com, you can't help but give them credit. Angstrom and Paradigm are probably one of the few manufactuers that give proper specs across the board. The Sensitivty ratings are done at ANECHOIC levels and not the industry standard IN-ROOM response. 92db Anechoic = 95db In-room! The also give proper power response in Wattage Amplifier Power clipping 10% of the time with musical signal. The 28's are a real world proper 150W. Build quality is excellent. 3/4" MDF with real wood laminar veneer. Anyways, check out these Angstroms at any Leon's Fine Furniature or local high-end hi-fi shop. There is a list on the Angstrom website. You can't go wrong with Angstroms *10 YEAR* warranty.

Strengths:
AMAZING sound quality Expansive and wide soundstage Beautiful copper woofers Excellent build quality with *real* wood veneer - no vinyl wrap here! Alternating internal bracing High quality crossover and binding posts Love supporting local brands

Weaknesses:
-Metal dome tweeters occassionally get harsh at high volume levels on bright music recordings or movie soundtracks -Wish the cabinet was 5" to 12" taller -Speakers look boring with grey grilles and black ash cabinet - why would you ever use these anyways with such beautiful woofers

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $600.00 from Fidelity One

Summary:
This is an excellent speaker for the money. It is by far the best speaker I have heard at this price point, and in fact it beats many speakers that cost upwards of $2000.
I am upgrading components constantly, but I have had these for about three years now and they still give me pause when I hear certain recordings. Awesome speakers.
Go for these if you are budget minded and like quality sound reproduction. These speakers are decent for home theater (a sub is really necessary for home theater - I got two!), but they really shine for music.

MY SYSTEM: Yamaha RX-V995
Yamaha CD-575 (optical connect)
Paradigm PW-2200 subwoofer
Paradigm PS-1000 subwoofer
Monster interconnects

Strengths:
Decent Bass extension, good seperation of instruments, nice clear sound, solid construction, VALUE!

Weaknesses:
Highs get a little harsh when loud (metal dome tweet - go figure)

Similar Products Used:
Klipsch RB5, Paradigm Monitor 3, Angstrom 303

Review 3 of 4

Summary:
Love ma speakers! Omega 28's on the front, Omega5's on the rear, and an Infiniti sub-woofer have transformed my sound room. Wanted a speaker system that could deliver the sound to outside onto the deck and this does it without loss of any sweetness! Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. Very happy with the whole effect.
