Bottom Line: These AAD 2003 loudspeakers are engineering marvels. With two 5-1/4" mid-bass drivers configured in a D'appolito array with a sophisticated and unique horn tweeter, you would expect good midrange performance. What you wouldn't expect... almost couldn't expect...is unbelievable bass response. Simply phenomenal! These speakers were designed by legendary bassist and speaker designer Phil Jones, and it is clear the man is at one with the laws of physics. The cabinets are gorgeous and are very well-braced, weighing in at a hefty 140 lbs each. The quality of the veneer on my natural rosewood pair is second to none. But back to the sound: these speakers compete favorably with anything in the sub 10k price range. Crisp but not-overcooked highs, natural and hearty mids and thunderous, tight bass. Absolutely a joy to listen to. Toed in slightly to the listening position the 2003 image very well and provide the kind of soundstage that one would expect at this price range. Highly, highly recommended!!

Bottom Line: Designed and manufactured by legend Phil Jones; Great imaging, sweet low-end response, and smooth, articulate highs. One of the best, if not the best, he's made. This speaker is rated down to 23hz, this from (2) 5 1/4" extremely long throw mid-bass/bass drivers; This is basically unheard of, from speakers this size; The solid formed tweeter has great transparency, and presents wonderfully throughout the room, even when way off axis; The cabinetry is absolutely beautiful, with rich veneers, and the design is stunning. Also very inert cabinet (to resonance). Top quality construction. Competes readily with much more expensive loudspeakers.
