Definitive Technology CLR 1000B Center Channels Reviews

Definitive Technology CLR 1000B
MSRP:
$ 399.00
The CLR 1000B Center Channel Speaker is designed with the same rigid standards and high performance goals as our main left and right front speakers. It includes state-of-the-art features like high-definition polymer coned cast-basket bass/midrange drivers with butyl rubber surrounds, wide dispersion pure aluminum dome tweeters with magnetic fluid cooling, complex Linkwitz-Riley crossover networks, solid non-resonant monocoque cabinets with diffractionless grill/baffle interfaces and effective magnetic shielding incorporating both metal shield and dual field canceling magnets. The CLR 1000B has been voiced (timbre-matched) with the same sonic signature as all of Definitive's front main speakers. It will also, because of its true full-range quality and linear response, often provide better performance and do a better job matching other companies' main speakers than its own. Of course, as you move up in the Definitive line, the overall performance improves, especially in the areas of dynamic range, extended linear response, fullness and clarity. The CLR 1000B is also Dolby Digital AC-3 ready.

Summary:
I own a DT Pro Cinema 100 system and have for some time, thought that the PRO 100 Centre could have a fuller and larger sound stage. Recently I got the chance to trade my Centre in for a CLR1000B. What a difference it makes to my system. This speaker has great bass and a full rich sound (clear). I was really after a good speaker to make voice in movies full bodied and this is exactly what I now have. Listened to the "Man Who Wasn't There" and the dialogue sounds very impressive and full. My system is 4 x DT Cinema Pro 100 and 1 x Pro 100 Sub, Denon AVR3200 AMP and now the CLR 1000B centre. Obviously had to rebalance the system a bit and am very happy with the results. Retail was $920 for the 1000B but I got a trade in on my old centre and paid $600AUS change over. This speaker has enhanced Dolby Pro Logic sound of my setup to great effect - it was sound setting that I never bothered with before this speaker; always preffered Dennon 5 channel stereo. My wife who loves musicals could tell the differnce with this speaker straight away and enjoys the sound as much as I do. Definately worth a listen if you're in the market.

Strengths:
Wide soundstage. Great dynamic range. Good Bass without loss of clarity. Performs brilliantly on voice. Great for mono soundtracks of old musicals.

Weaknesses:
Size may be an issue for some. Cost and availability in Australia (but better than opposition at same price).

I could not agree more I feel that the original CLR1000 is by far a superior center channel speaker that has been produced by definitive technology.I even tried a newer model CLR that I paid 400.00 for and I ended bringing it back because it did not sound nearly as good as the CLR 1000 I all ready had ,I thought that it would be better because it was newer.I also own the BP30 tower speakers which I was going to replace with the newer Definitive towers with built in subs but after listening to them next to my BP30,s I ended up bringing them back,even the sales worker agreed that the older USA made ones are much better than the newer models built out side of the USA
