Strength:

Overall neutral sound balance, with a robust bass and impressive power handing. Fit and finish are both respectable.

Weakness:

A mid-bass peak that won't quit really does not do these otherwise fine little speakers justice. Bass truly is extended for such a smallish system... there is no need for a fake mid-bass "boom" added.

These are an interesting loudspeaker, to say the least. They offer a combination of strengths and weaknesses, which are only an issue when one realizes they don't have to have ANY weaknesses at all. Bass is surprisingly extended for such a compact system, and power handling in the bass is surprisingly good. I can't find any fault in the midrange and treble region, and imaging is quite good. If only these did not have a false boom in the mid-bass, which can reveal itself as a "chesty" sound. Careful positioning can improve this of course as it is a bass region issue... but not fix it completely. The fix is by adding more stuffing to the cabinet interior - something Heybrook should have done in the first place. Overall these are a nice speaker for surround and compact music system use. With the right placement, they can offer hours of enjoyment.
