Bottom Line: I enjoy listening to all types of music: from pop, salsa music, rock, classic jazz, and classical. I believe these CSB-1 speakers are a great value at $899.
First, they have a beautiful black piano finish and will look good in any setting.
Second, they have a great musical tone. Yes, they do have detailed bass and very smooth highs, but
what sets these apart from other monitor speakers I have heard is that they excel at providing the overtones
that make each instrument and voice sound distinct and full. Therefore, they sound a lot bigger than their
physical size. However, these speakers are fairly deep and require a good speaker stand for proper sound.
Third, they are very non-fatiguing. You can listen to music for many hours without getting your ears tired. I think
the slight incline in the front baffle provide for better time coherence and the great imaging capabilities that these
monitors possess.
Fourth, these speakers seem to be a very easy load for my Rega Brio 3 amp. I suspect that you could use smaller
tube amps or vintage amps between 15 to 20 watts and these monitors will sound great.
I think the ribbon tweeters, the top notch 5.25" driver, and the top notch crossover designs are responsible for the overal smoothness. This is truly an audiophile monitor speaker.
I use the Rega Brio3 to power the speaker and most of the music comes from a Cambridge Azur 640C
Interconnects and speaker wires are from StraightWire.
