Review 1 of 1

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Very good unit for the price! The sound quality is poor with the included earphones and just so-so with decent ones. The software is also poor but it has enough plusses, like SD card play and recording, to make it a good buy under $80.

This is a good one for a student. If you don't care for the flexible recording fucntionality, then you would do better buying another model.

Strengths:
I like the ergonomic feature of flipping of display orientation.

It has the very convenient benefit of SD card play!

The battery life is excellent.

Voice and FM recording are both fine, especially since I can record directly to the SD card. This keeps my 1GB of music untouched on the internal flash.

Weaknesses:
The make of it seems cheap but the toggle is very responsive if a little on the sensitive side.

The folder navigation lags behind toggle use, so it is possible to overshoot the folder you want.

The random play function restarts from the same song again and again after every start up. This is easily overcome but adds to the nuisance factor.

The earphones are rubbish. Since the unit can accept a higher than average bit rate, you need proper earphones to benefit.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
