Bottom Line: I was looking for a top notch tuner to replace my mediocre Denon tuner, which I never really cared for. I was not in the market for a new tuner until I came across a website for tuners and they performed an unbiased shootout. Well, after reading through the various tuners made over the years, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Kenwood KT-990D tuner as one of the best all time.
Lo and behold, after reading the shootout, I came across someone selling this unit on E-bay. I paid a little over $100 and it's the best $100 I've ever spent! The qualilty and tone is pure high fidelity. The source is clean and the music sounds as if I'm listening through my high-end Rotel CD player or Denon turntable. I couldn't be more pleased.

Bottom Line: The KT-80 is a small "Slim-Line" Tuner from 1980. Its a very basic piece and there
is nothing spectacular about it. I got cheaply a model in black,but i think it was also
available in silver back then. Compared to the KT-7020 i also own the KT-80 is
noticable less sensitive and no "wavefisher",but the sound of local stations with
a strong signal was above my expectations. It sounds "analog" in a good sense:
well defined and clear with a tiny tendency to a warmer and rounder acoustic
pattern. In short: it sounds pretty good for the couple bucks i had invested.
In fact the KT-80 pleased me that much that now the KT-7020 sleeps in storage.
