Summary:
Very good tuner...definitely for the second hand price (with remote). However, if for about 400 pounds (list price for FM7.5), I still believe it is worth it. Reason being, this tuner has a very good sensitity, I just use a 75 Ohm wire as the aeria, I have got perfect resception (in Hong Kong).

Most importantly, the sound is great if you got a very reception (that I have). I would not say the sound beat the CD quality, but it is close....With the LS3/5A that I am using the human voice is un-believably real. However, I am not a fan of talk show, but listen to FM97.6, the classic music is just awesome, the violin is much much better that my previous JVC, Yamaha or Marantz (they are under US$200). Now I am satified and I have no strong reason to do any upgrade now.

Summary:
Look & feel:
This tuner has the Cyrus look (small unit, half width), a simple preset and tuning system with a big screen.
If, as I do, you've got the remote control (it comes with Cyrus III or can be bought), you can use many presets (7 without the remote), tune easily (only one way search without). So, I think the remote is necessary.
The back is OK (easy to connect), with the on/off button (it normally stays in standby mode, I only turn it down when I leave during a week).
RDS would be welcome for FIP (a French station sending the singer/titles of the songs).

Sound:
With a good signal (in Paris, many stations are close from each other) and a good station of course (full dynamic and non violent equalization, like FIP/ France Culture/ France Musique in France), it sounds marvelous:
- sweet,
- bass you can't have with standard sony/denon,
- good focus on voices (which are perfect),
- a good space (left/ right but also front/rear), very impressive for concerts (classical but also pop/rock) and even more on debate where people are in the room at a realistic place.
Even on commercial station (heavy mid, no-dynamic, bad phase, like NRJ in France), the sound is correct. On news stations (France Info, BFM in France), it's good (voices) to just OK (jingles).

My system:
I began with the FM7 on a Cyrus III amp (remember the remote)/ Mission 753 speakers and all I say before was there. I upgraded last year for:
- Teac VRDS-25 CD player, Mogami/Neutrik XLR cables
- Cyrus FM7 tuner, simple Monster Junior cables
- Classe CAP-101 amp, simple Supra cables
- Martin Logan SL3 speakers

Strengths:
warm and detailed sound, easy to use, good looking

Weaknesses:
no RDS

Summary:
I've had this tuner for a month now and I am very impressed with it. The sound quality is amazing. I never realized FM stereo could sound so good and I'm only using a cheap antenna at the moment. It's solidly built, but has no remote. The remote can be bought separately though, which for the price should be included. It is a rather expensive tuner, so I wouldn't expect any less than the top notch sound it provides.

Summary:
I have had this tuner for 2 years now. It sounds great overall and from a sonic perspective, I am very happy with it. It also looks great.
On the negative side, it is only FM and you have to buy a separate remote control for it unless you own a Cyrus III amplifier whose remote control, controls the tuner too. For $1000. Canadian it should have a remote and AM.

My only other gripe is that it doesn't work very well with the remote. You eventually get the preset station you are pressing but it may take a few attempts sometimes. I have sent the unit back to Cyrus and they updated the software chip in my FM7 and this has improved things a bit, but still falls short of the Japanese competition's precision with their remote controls. I even tried the Marantz and Rotel learning remotes and they were even worse with the tuner but fine with my TV, CD and amp. Go figure.

But since it sounds good and matches my Cyrus amp, I am happy overall. I hope Cyrus solves this problem or else they might end up like QUAD, trying to stay alive after establishing a great reputation for decades and then ruining it because of their remote's operation or I should say, Lack of operation.
