Strength:

Good, solid sound

Weakness:

No Dolby S, frequency response could be higher.

Got this open-box in Best Buy. Better deal than the higher-priced, similarly-equipped Sonys. Decent functions on the display, dual-timer being most useful. I would have preferred a pitch control, or even some tape-calibration instead of the pretty useless "demo" feature - what the hell is that supposed to be, an Easter Egg? Also, too bad that the "real-time" counter is not accurate.

Sonically, it's a prety good deck, right as you'd expect from a mid-entry model. It has the Pioneer sound - clear highs, good lows, and vocals a bit low in level. Excellent in reading older tapes, and very good (powerful) mechanism. Gripe: no headphones connection, no differentiated left-right level controls - why?

Strength:

overall sound,controls

Weakness:

no individual record volume controls.

Got the deck on ebay and paid a great price for it and it is worth the money I pd. Nice sound and a great mid level deck. I had a Technics RS TR272 and I like this better for several reasons (not a big fan of automatic recording levels for one). I also have the Technics RS TR373 and I think I may prefer the sound of the Pioneer to it.But I paid even less for it, even though it may be a slightly better all around deck.
