Weakness:

-quite slow tape rewind

I'm impressed with this model. A great build quality. Heavy, much aluminium. Made in Japan. 3 heads, 3 engines. Automatic bias adjustment. Great, clear sound. Many sound details.

Strength:

Compared with the "same" machines in it's class, the Onkyo Integra TA-6711 is the best. Knowing that Sony is a little bit agressive in the higher frequency, Pioneer hasn't got that much dynamic to offer, Nakamichi can compete. The Onkyo Integra TA-6711 boosts with an diff'rent type of encode/decode Dolby processing. The pre-recorded tapes sounds weak on a Sony or Pioneer deck. Just Dolby incompatible, cannot make sure one of them uses the wrong parameters.

Weakness:

For it's value Onkyo didn't payed much attention to the materials used for the cabinet. The power supply (board), pre-amplifier board could be separated like Akai did with the GX-95/75.

Right now, october 2002, I still use this TA-6711 eventhough we have cd-r's, dvd's and MP3's around us. This digtal decade many heavy users won't even use analogue tapes anymore. But the technique and it's sound still made me use it though. This deck is superb, solid and smooth. Measured with a Bruel&Kjaer WRMS meter and adjusted with Nakamichi's TR-100 (15 freq. steps) and demagnized every 50 hours with the TEAC E-3 head demagnizer this deck still rocks the digital technique far behind. Don't say analogue technique is far better, that's a story for every loony. On top of it, I use a Teac X2000-4TR for reference (only with EE tape and DBX-I on 3/3.4 ips). I just handle both machines with care (clean. and re-adjusting), making sure they give the best possible performance.

Strength:

Good sound and build quality

Weakness:

No own remote control, no electric open and close cassette holder (at that price!), no Dolby S

I purchased this deck to my second system (home theater). I purchased this Deck becase it matchs to my Onkyo Integra system line. In my opinion this deck has good sound but is very expensive and has many weekness. There are many better offer in the market.

To "THERAMBLER" :

"ONKYO doesnt have continous rolling with capstains. It starts rolling just when pressed the start button. "

THIS IS NOT TRUE ! You should have tested the machine, before you buy it. It was not working correctly.

I used several Onkyo decks, and they are the best at their price.

Well, FORGET (!!) all the positive things I have written above for ONKYO 6711.This machine was just a crab I have ever tried somehow failed to notice at first site. No frequency response (contrary to specific adds) clumsy operation, and nonstable calibration / bias adjustments. Even never think to purchase this product by the mistaken adds I did.

Meantime replaced that ONKYO 6711 with a few 3-head SONY machines from which I did not get what I seek. Also tried AKAI GX-75, which was in the meantime best I tried likewise, also got, a Pioneer machine similar to CT-93 and 830S versions.

Now what I have is, after a long pursuit, two great machines from which I do get what a person can expect, even more ; NAD 6300 monitor series and I can barely say the best so far DENON DN 790R, both are professional studio machines.

Do suggest especially DENON to those who are seeking breath taking recordings
and much more. See the comments on that great DENON 790R

Rating for ONKYO is even not worth just 1 star.

Recently i have replaced my TEAC V8030-S with ONKYO TA-6711 and i must admit that you get no distinctive difference betweeen the two decks in playback or recording. Both decks have real good workmanship, but dual capstain works much better with TEAC as ONKYO doesnt have continous rolling with capstains. It starts rolling just when pressed the start button. But cassette stabilization with ONKYO is much better than TEAC. TEAC has better calibration details but the real function almost same. (Both have separate channel selection). Nakamichi DR decks have pretty good place amoungst all makes but you can not hear the same cassette quality recorded by Nak. at other makes, due to difference on head gap, which is not good.
I also tried Pioneer 8030-S which fails in many respects. Finally i shoud emphasize AKAI decks of GX 75 & 95 models unfotunately no more available. They have really very good sound (bass & treble when compared to all above)
I still believe the existance of much better decks to come, to deserve real 5 star.

Shortly ONKYO TA-6711 is a new fresh air in the milestones of decks world.
Have no problem upto this time. SO FAR SO GOOD.
