Summary: I see everyone has the same problem that I had. This is easily fixed. If you take the top piece off, you find that this CD player is a major dust magnet. Take the four screws off of the cover, dip a Q-tip in Rubbing Alcohol and clean the tiny lens. I did this to mine and not it works great again.

Summary: I bought this system 3 years ago, and up until a couple months ago, it worked flawlessly. Then the cd player started to go...first stopped playing CD-Rs, now it won't recognize any cd in the tray. Everything else works great & the surround sound is awesome. So I'm torn as to whether I should have it fixed or buy a new system. I'm so mad that this didn't happen while it was under warranty!! I bought a Sony because they're supposed to be good. Sounds like the whole batch is bad. :-(
Strengths: Sound quality is awesome...VHS sounds as good as DVD.
Weaknesses: The cd player sucks!! It's completely useless!

Summary: If the CD player worked, this would be a great system for the money. Lots of great features, especially to do with the CD player, and I haven't been able to use them yet...
Strengths: Excellent sound, great speakers, easy to use, doesn't distort sound at high volume
Weaknesses: CD player sucks... Won't recognize that there are CDs in the tray.

Summary: The setup is pretty good if you're on a budget. Provides good surround sound experience. Tape recording feature is kind of nifty.
However, I'm not as irate as the other reviewer, but yes, the cd-player problem is affecting me too. Glad to know I'm not the only one. It kind of sucks having this great setup mired by such an annoying problem. Having it taken in tonight, and the store people say they can fix it.
Strengths: Multi "Functional" System, good surround sound for those on a budget, and nice speakers.
Weaknesses: CD-Player is troublesome.
