Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $150.00 from J and R music world

Summary:
It's a great system. I researched heavily before I bought it and that paid off. The only real downside is that the AM tuner does not really work. I can only receive one station. It is the best system I've ever had. Perfect for it's small size and a very nice price for what you get.

Strengths:
It is a very attractive machine. It has all the functions you'll need. Sleep timer and a cassette player are great to have. I love how when you turn the machine off, all the lights go off. There's nothing worse that an stero that ruins your dark sleeping environment. I love this thing.

Weaknesses:
The most dissapointing thing about this machine is that the AM tuner basically doesn't work. Other nitpicky things, the speaker cables are a set lenghth (4' maybe?) and are not really extendable. The sleep timer has preset times, the shortest being only 30 minutes. I would rather 15 minutes. There is no manual balance or equalizer, just presets. The tuner adjusting capabilites are obviously an afterthought in the design. I am still not used to it. The other reviewer is correct. The remote control could be better. I am the type of person who reads the manual and is very button friendly. If you are not like me, you will have a small learning curve getting used to the features.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
The SC-PM28 is a "little wonder" - small yet powerful enough and packed with desirable features that make it a worthwhile purchase. This system breaks the "traditional" mould and brings active multi-amped audio to the average music lover. On a scale of 1 to 5, this one surely scores a 4!

Strengths:
Bi-amped - instead of a traditional passive crossover, this system uses (or is supposed to use) a 2-way active crossover and two amplifiers per side (one for the woofer and one for the tweeter). This gives the system the capability to achieve a very good SPL sans any intermodulation distortion. The system does not distort even when the volume is turned to the maximum. As for other strengths, a 5-CD changer with capability to play back MP3 and WMA files is an attractive plus. The price is a bit on the higher side as compared to systems with similar power ratings (140 + 140W) but this is expected as the system uses two amplifiers per channel instead of two. On the whole, it offers good value for money, not to mention it's strikingly elegant appearance.

Weaknesses:
The remote control needs some getting used to. The buttons are not very intuitively arranged. The "shift" button functionality could have been incorporated as separate buttons.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
