Strength:

great recording facilities, brilliant speaker quality, never had any problems at all in 2 1/2 years

Weakness:

takes a while to name the md tracks

This is probably the best cd player i have purchased, it is well worth all the saving. The sound quality is great, the recording is better and suprisingly i have never had any problems with this system. Just shows with a little care ur cd players dont play you around.

Strength:

Nice assortment of features and excellent sound.

Weakness:

Poor craftsmanship -- very problematic for a $600 unit.

I've used this shelf system with minidisc for more than two years and have enjoyed it. It has great sound and nice features, but it has had problems from the beginning. The minidisc player stopped working within the first week; fortunately, Crutchfield provided a replacement. The second unit has gradually developed its own set of annoying problems. First, it developed what I believe is a short that causes the right speaker to periodically become mute. Turn the volume up and it'll come back on. The 3-CD changer is prone to lock up; unplugging the unit clears this up. The multi-function jog dial no longer functions normally; the numbers and letters alternately increase and decrease. Forget trying to enter minidisc track titles -- you're doing good to get the time set. The most recent episode of trouble involved the minidisc eject mechanism running constantly. It finally stopped after numerous attempts to solve the problem failed. Now I don't trust it, of course.

The feather in this system's cap is its speakers; they provide rich sound with deep bass, and I will miss them when I move on to components. Which I am about to do, and none of them will be Kenwood. The company owes everyone who coughed up $600 for this thing an apology. Or a hat that says "sucker," depending on your perspective.

Ugh...On the first day, the transformer failed and made a audible humming noise. The system was in service at an authorized center for 5 weeks while waiting for a replacement part from Kenwood. Kenwood's customer service was abysmal and the replacement part never arrived. So I returned it and got a Denon instead.
