Price Paid:  $150.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
I bought this unit because the salesman told me that AIWA was known for there radios. Well they really dropped the ball with this one. This radio will only pick strong stations clearly. I have a Pioneer reciever nearly thirty years old that will pick up station that this unit only reckonizes as static. The controls are also confusing. Any time the power goes out the unit goes into an annoying Demo mode. Its time to get the manual out to reset the mode and time because you can not figure it out without. Tape is also not full logic. You have to stop the tape to go into FF or RWD. Although CD deck is programmable, it is rather limited. Each track must be programmed into the play list and its only valid as long as the disc remains in the player. An option to exclude tracks would have been much more useful. There is no tone control as such. It does have a rudimentary equilizer dubbed "Qsound" with appears to have minimal if any effect. It also has a bass boost button wich does give a noticable and pleasing effect to some music.
The unit does sound quite good at all but very loud volume settings. As such I cannot recommend the unit to anyone interested in picking up alot of radio stations. The rest of limitations that I mentioned could probably overlooked considering the price of the unit.

Strengths:
Nice price
Compact Design
Good Sound for its size

Weaknesses:
Extremely poor Radio section
Tape controls not full logic
Confusing unlighted controls
No tone controls

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
