Price Paid:  $500.00 from J&R Bargain World

Summary:
This was Aiwa's last installment of the "big banger" Mini System. This Baby spits-out 450-watts like there is no tomorrow, that's if you use all of it and end up being evicted. This was Aiwa's top-of-the-line model for 2000/2001, and was the most difficult to get, because only a few were built for the US market, and I guess also they felt that only a few folkes would fork-out the factory price tag of $600. Aiwa threw every bell and whistle at this model, from Dolby digital 5.1 built-in to 30 preset fm/am channels, to manually ajustments for the multi-sound processor. I must admit the system seems a bit intimidating just at first glance, but it was worth the wait as I pondered over getting the previous model (NSX DS11). Aiwa's trademark in the mini-systems arena has always been the quality of sound, and the this one did not dissapoint. The MSP is pretty good, but things get even better when you manipulate the manual settings. The main speakers on this baby pump 165 each, while the centre and surrounds push 40 each for a grand total of 450. Playing CD's are great, as the changer is very fast (no skipping so far, I expect none), while the cassette section is very impressive. All-in-all, if you can still get this which I doubt, buy it.... as you may now notice that all the new Aiwa's have scaled down on power.

Strengths:
450 watts, dolby digital, clarity, digital input & output (too many features to mention)

Weaknesses:
not enough digital inputs, no subwoofer in the packaage
