Strength:

Strengths: Price Burr Brown DACs Build Looks Quietness while playing Sound Load times This thing sounds GREAT! Recordings sound very “sweet” on this player, any harsh edges seem to disappear but it also doesn’t sound “laid back” either where you’d lose the energy of the performance. Once the disc starts playing it’s very quiet, the only thing you’re going to hear is the music. It’s also built like a tank, it easily weighs 2x what similar “audiophile” players from other companies weigh.

Weakness:

Weaknesses: Noisy while changing discs Remote Reports of jamming issues No HDMI Mechanical power button Having a mechanical power button is ridiculous unless it can go into standby from a remote control, and it can’t. Not having HDMI is a bummer, but at the time HDMI was a brand new thing and nothing had it, so this isn’t denon’s fault. It’s NOISY while changing discs, you’d think it’s dying or something! The remote is very basic but gets the job done.

Strength:

3 stars cos of possible probable jamming if a CD is probable or at least possible.Sound quietness is outstanding!even with high quality headphones and amp.Had it for over 10 yrs and working great EXCEPT It jammed once and was a nitemare.............

Weakness:

Jamming!! CDs put in carelessly doubled or not perfectly in the carasel slot...Take care. After my jam nitemare I havent had problems. Tips if you get a used for cheap.....be very careful loading carasel .....If you hear anything scraping of CD,turn power off.Try to open, consider using something to get the offending disc out.Tilt possibly shake to get out.Even if you have to pry open the carasel, turn upside down, even shake. Its built well enough to survive without damage to unit, thats how I survived my nitemare.SOUNDS GREAT BUT GET IT CHEAP AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO JAM.......severe design flaw maybe 2 stars?

Strength:

Good sound quality, when not jammed.

Weakness:

PC control board breaks down, so many problems with the unit.
Noisy CD exchange mechanism.
Denon do not support their dealers and customers very well.
Stay away!!

I tried very hard to give Denon a chance. My 15 year old magazine changer gave out. Not thrilled about a carousel, but, not many choices for changers.
Tried the DCM 390 because it was rated as a Hi Fi product. First DCM plugged, was DOA, would not play. Contacted Denon, not much help. The Super Store was great, they swapped me a new one no problem. Second one played, sound quality was very good, small incident where i dropped one too many CDs in machine, the Denon jammed completely. I bought the unit out of country, Denon would not help in any way... The Super Store in VT was very gracious, i returned the unit for a full refund. Bought a Yamaha CDC 697, the unit has a very solid look and feel, plays well, super quiet CD change mechanism.

Denon gets very low marks from me.
