Bottom Line:
This review is about the original Squeezbox receiver. The sound quality is top notch when feed top notch files. Easy of use is almost makes this a must have item, but you will need a PC to act as your server. That being said that is the only draw back on this system, but it is a major one to deal with. Some have used thier laptop, but its best to find an old PC that you can tuck away in garage or closet so you won't have to hear the fan nosie. Once you set up the server and spend time compiling some playlist this thing is a dream to have hooked to your 2 channel or HT system. I have 2 one in the family room and the other upstairs in the bedroom. The ability to dial up your favorites or even browse internet stations without worry about changing disk is like hands free bluetooth for your home music. This basic receiver has all the connections that you need (Toslink, RCA, and Digital coax) to hook into any system the built in DAC's ensure that your music is sounding as good as the source it came from. The big plus for me was that they can connected to your home network via wireless or hardwire (RJ45 cable), you can even use the Rj45 jack as a passthrough for another piece of gear that needs a hardline connection (blu-ray players).
