PMA S-1 is one of the best integrated Amp that Denon made. It easily drives low efficiency speakers with clear background and dynamic punch when you need it to rocks. When playing classics it is a typical hi-end Japanese Amp with finer texature than American Hi-end peers.
I pair this amp with many speakers including small ones such as Dynaudio Audience 52 , B&W CM1, and found out that big-size speakers work better. However, vintage speakers such as YAMAHA NS1000M are too old for PMA S1 to drive. Old speakers are not fast enough to follow this Amp.

Strength:

Soundstaging, good resolution of details

Weakness:

heavy!! looks like a beast.

This is actually a review of the Denon PMA S10II integrated amplifier. After reading the great reviews for its smaller brother, the PMA 2000R, I went out and bought this instead on the recommendation of the shop owner, obviously after hearing it for myself. It is a massive amplifier, almost broke my back once when trying to move it. Denon's engineers really worked hard on this beast, cramming it full of quality parts and a great topology. The sound? Well, the S10 is as powerful as it looks. The details and soundstage that spewed forth were amazing rock solid, and yet deep and wide. I can only say nothing unfazes this amplifier. I have used the krell and classe integrateds before, and I must say the Japs have done well. At the price, the Denon is an amazing bargain. It looks awesome too, although some might prefer a more understated look. Buy it with confidence!
