from Perpich TV and Music Summary: I actually own the models SLV-750HF, and SLV-585HF, but all three models are essentialy the same on the inside, and as is the case many times, ther is no specific lisiting for either model, so I have to group them in to simular models. I bought both the SLV-750HF and the SLV-585HF at the same time during a clearance sale at the above mentioned store for $179 and $139 respectively. They were last years model (in 1994), or in the case of the SLV-585HF, the year perivous to that (1992). When properly maintained, I am convinced that these VCRs will last a lifetime. The only problem I have ever had with either is the grease in the tape tension arm drying out and causing tape eject problem (easily repaired with a dab of household oil). In these days of $49.00 VCRs that last a year, I believe I was wise in my investment. Perpich continues to give these units yearly conditioning for a mere $10.00. I use these units very heavily, editing video on my Power Macintosh, then recording it back to tape. I have yet to miss a favorite show, and the SLV-585HF model in particular makes a great audio only recorder to boot. The only drawback really are the rather bulky remote control units, but that can be forgiven. Strengths: Supreme build quality, obviously meant to last a long time. Remote controls are thorough, to say the least. Excelent picture. Weaknesses: Bulky remote controls. Useless "auto head cleaner" (I had mine removed). Last of the high-quality "prosumer" VCRs. Similar Products Used: JVC HR-S3600U, RCA VR-676HF, Sony SVO-160 pro deck.
