Price Paid:  $129.00 from Radio Shack

Summary:
A typical VCR, probably better than the cheapest models & not as good as the high-dollar JVC S-VHS models. VCR+ Gold is the most advanced version of VCR+. Picture is good with a good tape and bad with a bad tape, & there are no picture settings like "soft", "sharp", etc like Philips VCRs have. One special feature allows you to skip previews & go right to beginning of movie w/out holding down fast forward. You can hit power off after hitting rewind, & it will rewind then shut down. If you get an all-RCA system at the Shack, this is a good buy, but there is nothing special to recommend it & so far nothing really bad about it, either.

Strengths:
VCR+ Gold. Can find beginning of movie (skipping previews).

Weaknesses:
So-called universal remote is not even close to universal. Unless you have several RCA/Proscan components, don't expect much from this remote. Remote buttons are not very sensitive (you have to aim carefully & push firmly).
