Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Excellent price. Few people do not know that the Hi Fi Vcrs can record audio only signal with excellent fidelity. In this case the tape speed is irrevelant!. I have record a six hours audio music of my oldies music in this vcr for background listening. In summary you have a good VCR and a long time audio recording!

Strengths:
Budget price, full benefits of video and audio recordings/

Weaknesses:
At this price, none.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $79.00 from Ubid.com - New

Summary:
I've always had pretty good luck with RCA products. So when I decided to upgrade to a 4-Head HI-FI vcr, I chose the RCA VR623HF model. The first thing I noticed about this unit is it's sound. It pumps out excellent sound, the quality is alot better than what you would expect considering it's price. As far as picture quality, it's sort of a mixed bag.
I don't have expensive video cables hooked up or a S-video capable tv, so maybe that's why. But with regular RCA cables the picture seems to be a bit grainy when playing VCR tapes, compared to other models. I thought maybe the tracking needed adjusting but that wasn't it. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible but it could be better, even for this price. Also, playback on older tapes recorded with different VCR's is a bit jittery. It does however play studio and quality tapes jitter free. In the recording department though, this unit really shines. The recorded picture and sound quality is just as good as the source. Very impressive. Now as far as inputs and features, this unit is quite nice. It has one pair of audio/video ins in the back and another pair in the front which is useful for camcorders and that of a like. The front panel of the vcr displays the clock and other modes the vcr is in. The foward/rewind speed is also quite fast.
The remote is the same old song and dance. Plane jane with nothing fancy here, then again, it seems all remotes these days are worthless. It does the job though.

Overall, I am happy with this unit. The sound really does make up for any small short comings and for the price, it's a great value. Just get some quality rca cables and this thing might even earn 5 stars.

Strengths:
Great Hi-Fi Sound, recording quality, 2 pairs of audio/video ins, foward/rewind speed,

Weaknesses:
Playback on older tapes recorded with different VCR's are quite jittery.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
