, from NY,NY Summary: Everything comes in a single box including cables and a pre-programmed remote. I was listening to DVD's within 10 minutes of the system's arrival to my apartment. With two strong subwoofers, bass output is strong and dynamic. It is an excellent system for movies like the Matrix and Saving Private Ryan where audio effects are a key component in appreciating the film. The system is so easy to use with the LCD screened main unit and the unbelievable remote. My girlfried (who struggles with setting the time on our VCR) uses the system with ease and as she said, "It just looks so cool!"
When using the system for music, the sound is clear but lacks the warmth you would generally find in a $5,000 system. I compared it in my apartment with a set of Energy Satellites, a Cerwin-Vega sub, a Marantz SR-8000 receiver and a Marantz DVD changer. With cables that system came out to be around $4000. The two systems on balance were of roughly similar quality, with the Marantz/Energy system producing a slightly more natural and warm sound throughout "musical frequencies". However, in an apartment nothing beats the ease of set-up and wall mounting capability of the SoundSpace's all speakers and the DVD Main Unit.
For five grand or a bit more, you can assemble a system that produces a warmer, more refined sound than the SoundSpace 10. If you listen mainly to audio, you will probably be served better by buying a system other than the SoundSpace where you can dedicate more money towards the front speakers. However, if you listen to a balanced mix of audio/home theater (or more home theaater than audio) the Soundspace 10 is an excellent choice. It gives you very high quality sound, stunning looks in a sleek and apartment- friendly package, solid bass and a tremedously easy interface (via remote and LCD displays) with your home theater gear. If you can stomach the $1000 or so premium you pay for design and the Nakamichi name, the SoundSpace is certainly worth the price tag. Strengths: Design, Ease of Use, Bass, Excellent for all home theater applications Weaknesses: Sound has a rather sharp feel, a system for this price should generally sound a bit warmer and more harmonic
