Review 1 of 6

Price Paid:  $75.00 from eBay auction

Summary:
Purchased a non-working vcr with the expectation of repairing it but found many cassette loading plastic parts cracked/broken. Can't find a source for the replacement parts but the otherwise excellent machine will wind up in the landfill.

Strengths:
Teriffic features - much more than current VCRs on the market.

Weaknesses:
Terrible design of short-lived materials in the cassette loading mechanism.

Similar Products Used:
Proscan VCR

Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $500.00

Summary:
Have been using the unit constantly for almost exactly 5 years when suddenly a tape jams while loading. After taking it apart I find an incredibly large number of cracked platic parts. The white platic parts seem to be the subject to cracking while the black plastic parts don't. Both rt & lt tracks that guide the loading mech are cracked in at least 50 places. Eventually some parts fell out & that's what caused the tape loading jam. There are also other plastic parts cracked, & waiting to break, besides the loading track. It's been a great unit until now but very disappointing as I believe it's about to become a boat anchor. A unit this expensive should either use metal or a better grade of plastic. Good luck to the rest of you & enjoy it while it works!

Strengths:
Good recording quality. Easy to use. Front jacks.

Weaknesses:
Cheap plastic subject to cracking used in a significant number of highly used & stressed places. After seeing the number of cracks inside I'm shocked the unit didn't break several years back.

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $700.00 from Hippo's, Albany, NY

Summary:
This review is for the model HS-U770 S-VHS. I've had this VCR for about 8 years now, and it's never given me ANY problems as far as reliability or performance, (maybe some of the other reviewer's below got defective units?). Picture quality is as good as it gets for S-VHS format, but you DO have to clean the heads periodically as with any VCR or cassette deck. (DUH!) The audio response is excellent due to the Class A output stage. I often make audio-only tapes of CD's, etc. on this VCR, they have much better dynamic range that even a very good 3-head audio cassette deck. Only problem is: then I can't play them in the car or on a boombox! The features and flexibility are all you could want. Indexing works well, making it easy to find a specific point on the tape quickly. I would buy a Mitsubishi VCR again if/when the situation arises. The HS-U770 definitely gets 5 stars from me.

Strengths:
As stated above.

Weaknesses:
None that I can find.

Similar Products Used:
Sony, JVC, GE, Magnavox, etc.

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $400.00 from andersons, redwood c

Summary:
I echo the views of the previous reviewer. Finally settled on this model after comparing features and performance. But after 2 years of light and careful use,(I am the only user) the loading mechanism became intermittent, and then jammed completely. I too opened up the cover of the machine, not only to find (probably the same broken part) as the previous reviewer) but also a "spare" head cleaning roller lodged between some electronics.

Strengths:
Features, performance (when new).

Weaknesses:
Poor build, assembly, and possibly design.

Similar Products Used:
JVC, Panasonic, Philips.

Price Paid:  $518.00 from hoopers meridian ms.

Summary:

Strengths:
at first great

at first great

Weaknesses:
only lasted 3 years on 3/17/01 was unloading a tape
and out came tape and a broken plastic part.
after removing units cover i found over 15 cracked, broken or distored plastic parts in the loading mechanism. to repair would require complete new loading mechanism. this would cost aprox. $300.00 this unit never was operated by childern or with used tapes. all it ever had was tlc. hard to understand why mitsubishi hign end vcr shot craps so soon? tried to call company and was given toll# to call. called this # and was put on hold for 15 mins. at 25 cents/min. and never did get an answer. would like to have some recourse.
