Price Paid:  $499.00 from Sound Advice/Tweeter

Summary:
This DVHS deck is incredibly easy to use despite its many features, and the recordings it produces (from both SD analog as well as digital HD sources) are of the highest quality possible with current consumer recording gear. As a test, I recorded 2 hours of the PBS high definition demo loop; friends who later saw the results could not tell the difference between the live feed from the TV station and the recording. Even recordings made off cable appear "live", with vibrant colors and excellent detail.

Strengths:
The FireWire connection to my HD tuner makes setup very quick and easy, and the LCD remote makes programming the deck without actually turning it on a breeze. The ability to record and play back SVHS tapes is also a big plus.

Weaknesses:
The lack of an onboard ATSC tuner.
