Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $600.00 from Hi fi Buys

Summary:
I have an MX-1 -or had - it worked fine for 6 years - it recently packed up - estimate to fix was 300 by Best Buy I got it to play tapes from home as I am a Brit. But also used it plenty as a regular video. Did the job

Strengths:
Played British tapes nice enough

Weaknesses:
Was $600 - and with HIFI VCRs dirt cheap nowadays it takes a good reason to drop that sort of big money again. Aiwa doesn''t have a big authorised repair list according to their website - not one in Atlanta

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $439.00 from Digitaltronics.com

Summary:
Though in this rating its listed as a MX-1, I'm assuming this is a typo and means the HV-MX100U unit. I bought a JVC GRSXM7700A SVHS-ET Camcorder in Malaysia thats a PAL unit. I Needed a Multisystem/Converter VCR for converting and recording in NTSC video format. Looked at several models that would have what I wanted without spending a fortune and this had most for the lowest price. Hopefully the next model Aiwa produces will have a SVHS recording feature, but for converting thru to my SVHS recorder on my other VCR, this will do for now. Simple to operate, and PAL/NTSC/Secam conversion is great. If you have PAL format movies..then this is definitely the unit to get for converting.

Strengths:
Excellent conversion from PAL to NTSC or vice-versa. Exceptional Hi-Fi Stereo capability for a VCR. (HV-MX100U)

Weaknesses:
No S-Video Jacks. No S-VHS.

Review 4 of 4

Summary:
I would rate this a five star if it was hi fi and had a better tuner.

The MX100 has both, so given the choice go for the 100. It should be the last vcr you'll ever need.

Strengths:
Flexibility. Converts any standard (almost) to any other. Plays video tapes of virtaully any standard.

Quality, whilst not professional, is still good. Conversion from a live source is excellent.

Weaknesses:
MX1 does not do hi fi, nor does it have a full 181 channel cable tuner. Both of these difficencies are fixed in the MX100.

Marantz MA-9S2 Reference Series Power Amplifiers Review

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
