Review 1 of 6

Price Paid:  $299.00 from HH Greg

Summary:
Good system for the money. The speakers: Decent for a start, but you will want to replace them eventually, at least the sub, center, and fronts. So far I have replaced the centr and added a powered sub, and the system really sounds great. Of course, there are better sounding systems, but not for this money. One probelm: With included passive sub, at higher volumes the sudden bas hits would send amp into protect mode. Replaced sub with a powered sub, and problem went away. I chose this system becuse we were on a tight budget, and this one provided DTS decoding. I would reccomend this (or the current model like it) to anyone who wants a second system, or a decent system on a budget.

Strengths:
DTS Decoding. Decent, but cheap, speakers. Decent power. Great for low-budget, small Home Theater room.

Weaknesses:
Remote is way too small and only controls other Kenwood products. With included passive sub, at higher volumes the sudden bas hits would send amp into protect mode.

Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $249.00

Summary:
This unit stinks; just after warranty ran out it began to hum like a champ. The hum is audible even at low volume. Didn't have bass from day one...cheap mini system from walmart has far superior sound.

Strengths:
cheap

Weaknesses:
no bass, hums

Review 4 of 6

Price Paid:  $249.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
I bought it for a friend.
Pretty good price for the money. The receiver alone
costs that much. The subwoofer is reasonable. The surround
speakers are OK for movie.
Substitute with 2 inexpensive/good front main speakers
such as the Sears' Jensen JP1200 and one gets a excellent
system for $249 + $80 = $329.

Strengths:
Value, receivers

Weaknesses:
Satellite speakers

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
