Strength:

Sounds great when it works for a small system and easy to install.

Weakness:

Player looks cheap and is cheaply built. I bought the unit for my parents and it broke within five months of being used about five times!!!!!

I bought the unit for my parents and it broke within five months, over the course in which it was used only five times!!!!! For some strange reason one can barely hear the audio even when the volume is turned up all the way. This is true for the radio, CD's or the DVD player. (And no the speakers aren't blown out, because they were tested on another unit, as was the connecting sub-woofer cable.) The DVD player will show video, but that's about it. I had problems with the JVC 501-BK DVD player before, and against my better judegement I bought this player, because it sounded better than the Sony, but as usual JVC quality is just garbage. Avoid at all costs!

None, this was a gift to my parents. My system is an audiophile set-up and therefore not compariable.

Strength:

Everything except one thing totally impressed me about this theater system.

Weakness:

After about 2 months every dvd I inserted was unreadable! CDs will still play and I have used a laser cleaner but nothing works.

The sound quality is wonderful! The system only lasted for 2 months before problems with the dvd player began.

Strength:

* Great value at price I paid. * Sub has its own gain control. * Multiple suround settings.

Weakness:

* No optical output for DVD player. * Speaker mounts are generic. * DVD/CD player lid lifts up. Looks cool, but makes placement in a rack difficult. * Remote is "average," but not backlit. * Haven't experienced any problems yet, but I can imagine that the center speaker might be underpowered for some DVDs that make heavy use of the center. * Tuner reception has not been stellar

Purchased this my father as a dad's day gift and have been pleased. I auditioned several other all in one packages and was not impressed -- particularly with the sub woofer. However, the JVC has great sound for this class of equipment.
