Price Paid:  $450.00 from sears

Summary:
Okay,my old system died. it was completely custom tuned and set up. I am an audio engineer. The denon was cheap and I was able to put this on my sears card. Anyway, the sound is clear. good, accurate highs. Some speaker compression compared to really expensive speakers, but better imaging than my old rig. sub and total system volume was plenty loud. overall amazing for the price.

Strengths:
clarity, detail, but mostly PRICE! just the best ever deal for the money. my first test of the system was a dvd audio disk that was recorded very meticulously for sound quality: steely dan's last album from a year ago, two of a pair or something like that. Man, there was clarity and detail for days, even in the low end. Really a fine sound.

Weaknesses:
like most of the home theatre set ups I have seen, even the more pricey ones, this system has a tiny bit of a lack of low mids in the center channel. Unfortunately, the crossover point cannot be set any higher than 120hz. I would like to be able to squeeze a little more "upper lows" out of the sub. I am going to see if trying a bigger center channel speaker fixes this. But this is really a nit pick! The low mids of the surround speakers was perfect in conjunction with the sub. I have the crossover set to the highest point of 120. I am also going to do some more experimenting with the receiver settings to see if I can improve this.

Similar Products Used:
custom dvd/surround setup that I hand picked, tweaked and configured. I am an audio engineer and work in recording studios, so when I go to other people's houses and see how horribly their home theatr

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Ebay

Summary:
I recently purchased the Denon DHT-683DVD System off Ebay, hoping I got a great deal. I did. This system is all it is cracked up to be. After looking at other systems in the $200-400 price range (I'm a college student), I got really interested in the Denon systems. Great speakers, powerful subs, and superior receivers are their brand. This system is no different. The Progressive Scan DVD player, 550 Watt Receiver and 55 Watt Sub deliver superior sound. I will be getting new cabling for the sub, but other than that am extremely satisfied.

Strengths:
Great sound, clear speakers, progressive scan DVD player w/ MP3 capabilities. Lots of optical inputs.

Weaknesses:
Sub isn't extremely clear without new cabling.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
